North Carolina

Anyone know of anyone in Cumberland County with Call ducks? I got one at the Cedar Creek flock swap September and would love to get another Call hen as her companion.
I know, I should have gotten 2 but I was trying to be good and not increase the flock size sooo much, but since then I have gotten rid of 3 roosters so the flock number won't increase.

I just had an experience that we all need to think about very seriously!  I got sick...I mean CCU sick very unexpectedly...was away for 4 days and then again unexpectantly...2 days later for 4 days....ended up in they neuro unit at a big teaching hospital an hour away from us. My chickens needed to be taken care of..........my hubby had no time (and you all know he's not a  chicken man)   He was able to keep them watered and pretty much filled up their feeders the day before. Oh no!!! I'm glad you are home! You can call me for help any time. I mean, I'm in Wa state right now {or I would have done the 5k, too- even though I MUCH prefer the 10k ;) } , but if I'm home, I am more than happy to help.

Did I see you at TSC last week with your little dog? :)

Sorry about your illnesses! I fell down the steps last week, and wrecked my ankles. I am lucky, my son came by to feed and water chickens and donkeys, but not scoop poop or let the girls out. The chickens were most happy when I was able to walk to the coop again, and I have been able to destroy Poop mountain at last.

So sorry you were sick. Yes it happened to me, I got sick but I do have a wonderful neighbor that I had helped start a flock of their own so she came by. I hope you are feeling better and have no complications from what made you sick. I still have a little bit of weakness from a neurological prob. I had.

Oh no! So sorry you were sick but happy that you are feeling better. We are going out of town for a few days and my neighbor is taking care of the chickens. I'm sure they'll be fine.. but I worry nonetheless!
Aberdeen, Nc. Looking for rhode island reds, black austrolorps, and ameraucana pullets. Thanks in advance
I'm pretty close by in the West End area. I have black australorps, easter eggers and wyandottes. Right now, everyone is free ranging together but I'll have purebred chicks and started pullets in the spring.

I thought about calling you but haven't
thought to ask for your phone number and I also read enough to know where you were! The only thing I had was my phone and my mind wasn't in good enough shape to type out the details of what was happening. AND... of course when we threw everything in my bag, I forgot my charger for my phone.. BUT,,, there's one in there now that will staty in there! My dh helped to take care of the 5K... that's why he couldn't stop and get the rest he really needed to heal... of course there's always the tax deadline of the 15th....Just a small thing

But I'll tell you what**** there's nothing like being in a situation where you can't take care of yourself, like getting to the bathroom which was 5' away and sneaking over there only to find myself so tangled in wires that you can't get back!!

And of all times, instead of having the other wonderful nurses....I had the one who.....well, let's just say she must not have been having a good night..! And I had to call her to unwind me from all the wiring and listen to her fuss about me getting out of the bed to begin with. !! yuk! But when I woke up...dang...I had to go and I didn't have the time to call her!

So sorry you were sick and stuck in the hospital. :( Not fun!

We do have a sorta contingency plan. I have to type up directions for my hubby when I go out of town, so I just keep that on my iPad nowadays and update it when I change things. It's easy to email to anybody. I have another sheet that tells where keys can be found. If I ever have to use that one, we will then have to find new homes for keys. But that's okay. At any rate, my neighbor across the street would help out if need be, and so would the ones "next door"...a couple fields over. My vet lives on the road behind ours, and that's where her clinic is as well. I can call them and they would come collect all the dogs. If the other people aren't available, one of the techs would care for the livestock, too. Or Doc Kim or her husband would. We do have some backup. Thank goodness!

I hope to have someone else involved before I leave town this weekend although I should only need them to check the water and put them in and let them out! I have a cousin who has a horse next to us but I need to let them know the routine..They will take care of them. I just wasn't able to communicate with them and my dh was also sick and spread inbetween a stress filled job and the 5K.

He really had all he could handle! He's still not well.. But...I won't leave town again without someone knowing what should go on. Other than my dh's cousin....we have no animal people around.
