Well, Smitty.................Its almost 3am here and I just went in the kitchen and cracked the tiny egg. I would have taken $$ that it had NO yolk.......but here's the proof that I was wrong! :lau Going to save it until dh gets up and cook it and tell him that's his omelette! Here are a couple of picts. The shell itself was very strong. This pict shows a teaspoon beside it.
My barred rocks have starting laying again, tiny little eggs...but mine are low cholesterol, no yolks! What am I doing wrong?? These girls are 18-ish mos old per the previous owners.

when did you get them? I have a problem also with knowing what age 8 of 9 of the pullets/hens n my bigger coop are. Of course, my first 4 which are in the smaller coop should be around the 18ish mo. They are just coming out of molt (hit it just when our first real cold came in) Needless to say they have been "off" for about 6 wks. Just getting back to laying a little. I did a happy dance when I got 4 eggs in one day......celebrated too early!

I have started marking the eggs as to what day and what coop they came. I never know who laid what. Today they would be marked "mon-2" if it was from coop 2. I knew 7 of those in my bigger coop were not laying at all when they came to me so I've been antsy as to just an approx day. for them. My source is just an ordinary farmer who does not keep track of the ages of his chickens.. Now if you ask him about his herd of cattle....he keeps perfect info of each with their pedigrees. LOL But he's so sweet...always offering me more chickens. (He is a client of my dh's and knows that dh is not a chicken person.. I think he's just trying to aggravate my dh...!

I just got these from one of my cotheyers who is being sent to Florida this month (active duty). They weren't sure exactly how old they are, laying when I got them then went into a molt, not horrible but just enough to look bad for a month.
My other coop, have 4 hens who are 21 months old. They had the most horrible molt about 2 months ago, and still haven't resumed laying. And an orphan bantam, no idea on age, she quit laying when the time changed last month. So, nine hens and about 3-5 eggs per week!!

Give them some more time.....they just had a big change in their lives in more ways than one Are you using the same bedding as they were use too? Mine didn't like the shavings.(had never seen it) so I went to a farmer and got some straw...NOT hay. I use it only for their boxes with sand on the coop floor. Didn''t take them too long before I started seeing them be more active around their nest and after another day of two (I also added a couple of ceramic eggs)....I started getting some eggs. Hope its just that simple......good luck
