So where is the closest mule city to the Triad. Seems like they are all east of Durham.

The nearest one to you would be Holly Springs and I know that is not very close. What you might try is talking to a business that you deal with and see if they can start carrying it for you. It just might create more business for your local food dealer. Best of luck.

Hey y'all

Just moved to Cameron, NC from Florida a month ago due to the hubby having military orders bringing us back here. We're getting ready to build a house in carthage on what will be our forever farm and are excited to start getting all the chickens my heart can handle. I have to keep reminding my husband that we are currently in base housing though so we can't yet have a pig, or goats. the most we can do right now is bunnies, lol. And maybe hatch out a few eggs since we should be on our land by the time they're ready to move out into a coop

Don't know if anyone is interested but the Cape Fear Poultry club will be holding it's first spring show on March 14 2015. Their facebook page is Cape Fear Poultry Association (has information on it and the club's web link to their website).

Oh I know! That's why even though I want cochins, I won't do the fuzzy feet until I can brood them out of the house. The feathery feet make them smell WORSE! That I do remember from when I tried brooding silkies inside last December (2013)... they lasted about a week in my house before I had to rehome them, I didn't like the smell and it turned me off of silkies permanently. I assume it'd be the same for all feathery footed fowl. =)

Oh ok! We know a few people that live out that way. It's a really beautiful area. We're out on the opposite side of Carthage towards Seven Lakes.

sooooo..... you know of any good auctions in the area? Where I may or may not be able to get a bottle calf later? lol. Once I'm living on the farm that is, not to bring home to base housing and hide in my garage, lol.

There's a weekly auction in Broadway (near Sanford). They have mostly chickens and rabbits. I don't know if they ever have calves. I've only been a couple times but have had good experiences there.

I went to another auction near Biscoe once. I would not recommend that place to anyone... They ignored all the breed info I gave them on the chickens I brought and made up their own. They sold my Easter eggers as Araucanas and a RIR mix as a Blue laced red Wyandotte. I hate dishonesty like that and will never go back.
