I thought my Hampshire red rooster was big until I saw that one. Mine is about 1/3 smaller than that one. Lots of small birds, I'm more interested in full size birds for my flock. I did have a good time looking at all the different types of chickens.
I prefer large breed for my flock too! I'm getting a couple of buff orpington hens on Wednesday from creekside heritage farm. So excited! I took a picture of my son beside that New Hampshire Roo to show just how big he was! Maybe we could plan a meet up next time the show comes around in the fall!

Had fun at the Greensboro show today. Caught up with some fellow Ameraucana Breeders Club members, and my son had his eyes opened to several new kinds of chickens. He had never seen a sebright before. Those were some of his faves.

Notice how he's wearing the shirt from the 5k we ran this morning... He placed third in the youth category, ran it in 24:20. Pretty dang proud of him! :)
thats awesome! My son enjoyed the show too. I am hoping to add an Ameraucana to my flock soon. I bet my kids would love a colorful egg.:)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

I will have to say that this has been a "kick in the pants" weekend for me... it's been a steep learning curve, that's all.

I did go the the GSO show, I'm a member of the club, so I volunteered for a few hours... but my birds didn't make it

Learned a lot of rookie lessons... but they needed to be learned... so I can now check that box. Still very very disappointed. On the bright side, I did get to visit with @ramirezframing , her kids and mom... and got a couple of new Lakenvelder girls

Installed two packages of honeybees- got them in- didn't realize that the worst part was trying to figure out how to maneuver inside beekeepers garb! geez, i'm clumsy enough, but add "moon gear" and... well, let's just say it's a good thing i didn't become an astronaut

Moved my broody Sebright into her own house (bought her a coop with run of her very own!)... and she hates it! 1 egg cracked in the move (doh!) and she refused to sit on the other egg over night... she decided to hatch a leaf that she found in the coop... so the egg was stone cold this morning! She's staying in there! I left the egg in hopes that I haven't broken her and she will start sitting again

... and then I'll give her new eggs to hatch. Why did I have to try to fix it... it didn't appear broken?!?!

On the flip side, I did get about 1/4 of our vegetable garden in plus the fencing put up. I also put in a bunch of container gardens!

So, here's to staying sane on a Monday! Happy Happy Peeps!!!

That's an awesome finish!!

I love my Sebright! She's a crazy little chicken! Always so much fun!

Guess I should've warned people that I don't have rainbow hair anymore... I'm not that easy to spot in a crowd. :)
Next time we will have to have some kind of BYC shirt or something that someone else mentioned. My son was playing with some other kids outside, I wouldn't be surprised if they were BYC kids! :)

I'm up to 3 new peepers... one more viable egg still under ol' Mama. And my Faverolles chicks from Valley Hatchery should be shipping out in a little over a week! Chicken Math strikes again lol!
OH! Also, one of my crossbreed girls who just started laying is giving me ping-pong balls instead of eggs lol! They're almost perfectly round!

Anyone heard whether Asheboro TSC will have the Flock Swap this Saturday? I might just take my extra birds up there regardless...

Good morning folks

Congrats to all those hatching chicks. I am incubator challenged so
I have my eggs hatched by BHep. She does a great job. Chicks are
always so cute and it's interesting to see what each one ends up
looking like when hatching mixed breeds. The pure breeds are always
a known on the color but cute just the same.

hope everyone has a good day

I am incubator challenged lately. The first ones I set all hatched but one three years ago. Last yr I let my hens do it. This yr I put 1/2 under a hen and the rest in the incubator, She is a small hen. Stupid me. The temp seemed to be doing well. The eggs in the bator were beginning developement, Last night i threw away 4 of the last eggs in there. This morning I have one pip and it has blood on it. ? will it go ahead and hatch. I am afraid to touch it. The ones under the hen were active and most of the shell off last evening. I have not been back out there. I do not want to jinx them too. I so wanted these chicks. Jubilee orps. The ones I took out on day 21 had tiny air sacks and only 3 had begun development. Next time if there is one, I will give them less than called for moisture until later . Maybe the air sacks will be bigger or it may have been to low temp. I had two thermometers in there. The temp while turnning was 99 later when i took out the turrner it dropped to 98 but after a day I upped the bottom temp to 99. The hatcher never got over 100.6 at anytime. these were shipped eggs. Only one day in the mail would that make a difference like that. ???
