Glad to hear.. oh when our air broke last august I learn the hard way to be grateful for air conditioned every hour of the day..LOL and power, power is a lovely thing.

Pender County here, this isn't anywhere near over yet.
The NE Cape Fear and Black rivers are in the process of cresting today thru Saturday.

Expected to be higher, yet again, than Mathew.

Many have gone back to salvage/protect what was left after the hurricane or weren't effected by flooding from the storm itself so they had not evac'd. Big uptick in Coast Guard and Army heli traffic this morning, unfortunately expect them to be very busy these next few days.

Stay safe and hang in there. This thing will take a long time to recover from. We were lucky--trees down, but the house, shed and chickens are all ok. I hope the rivers and creeks cresting don't affect you.

Checking in from Morehead City. We are relatively unscathed. Got power back yesterday afternoon, which was glorious! It went out last Thursday.

The chickens rode it out in the shed like champs. I even got four eggs, which was bizarre. They were a little hesitant when I let them out because the back yard looks so different with all of the trees and branches and horizontal hedge, but after about 15 minutes they were scratching and clucking contentedly.

I know a lot of people who have lost everything. This was a scary storm. Even though it made landfall as a category 1, the fact that it basically sat on us for three days made it far more damaging than its category would imply. We got two FEET of rain. South of here got more than three.

It's going to be a long and expensive clean-up. I really feel for the down east community here. Many of these folks live pretty close to the bone and between repairs and lost income, it's not looking good. Send good juju our way, please.

Thank you, we are good here, my "compound" is high and dry, 55' up. We might become and island again but we are well prepared to ride it out, yet again.
