Thank you so much for the warm welcome Miss Lydia!! BHep has been my new best friend (esp. since she's only an hour away from me...haha). She has given me a slew of information thus far. Everyone has been so VERY helpful...I am overwhelmed in a good way!! Now that I have a good deal of people helping me choose the right chickens/chicks

....if only we could find the "motivator"
barnie.gif
to get my husband out there to restore/refinish that coop so I can put all of your wonderful suggestions into practice.

I think I am choosing chickens for their "cuteness"

and not their purpose

...so I will definitely need some of everyone's help moving away from the "cuteness" factor.

Although they are ALL cute in one way or another too.

I have cochin bantams also and for cuteness you can go wrong, but for small children maybe not, they are tiny and could be hurt easily.. but they need to be taught how to take care of and handle animals so what ever you like go for it..

A good motirvator for the DH is a brooder full of chicks in the house.

I didn't say that.....

ETA: I'm going outside now to get new pics.....

Are you saying your DH loves this as much as you, my dh tolerates this obsession of mine thats about it.. Now give him a motorcycle and he's in Hog Heaven...or I should say Yamaha heaven lol

Nope...But he wants the chickens outside.

Enough to have bought a furnace & oil tank to heat an area in the barn for my brooders.

I have 2 Seramas that sleep inside & go out during the day. Yes the rooster starts crowing about 5am. I was carrying them outside yesterday, talking and cooing to them, as I walk by he asks "are those the only ones left in the house?" My answer "yup" under my breath and on the way out the door... "except the babies in the laundry room"

Hey... if he doesn't ever go in there and he doesn't notice 3 brooders with 12 chicks & 6 ducklings...OOOO well. Ooo and an incubator full and 2 hatcher (in the office) full.

p.s. You have to walk past the laundry room to get to our bedroom. And the pc is in the office. He KNOWS..... he just chooses to ignore!

He has his boats...I have my animals. I get seasick and I don't like fish. Except in a fishtank.

I like things that are feely, touchy, and poop alot lol. I'd have alot more if we didn't live in Billy goat country..

Wish I had my camera! DW yelled "honey one of the girls slipped through the gate!"
Knowing I had said I was fixing that a week ago, I ran for the peice of hardware cloth, nails an hammer on the way to the hen! And again DW sounds off "Honey there are Turkeys too!" heard rummaging through my mess of a basement! Dropped what I had and ran. My hen B-lined to the deck at the rear where I normally appear. Poor girl followed me right back to her gate when I found her by DW's feet!
Yes I'm with Em now! Them turkeys I think flew in my run yesterday! I come home and the feeder is not just knocked over but split apart likea plane hit it! Not broke but two parts were 10+ feet apart! Got a full color cam on them now! And to think I feed them too! To the neighbors they go! Ya! Yah! Yah! Got on outa here bearded eyed mammoth birds!
Don't go to far though I'll be seeing you sooner than you know!
