ourlittleflock Gabby is a piece of work. I got or you could say she got me at a local shelter. She is crazy. She was a drop off because the family moved and did not want to haul a cat too. Utto I feel my blood pressure rising. Well I was blessed to get her I will leave it at that. Blood pressure dropping;> They tell me she is called a mutted Calco. She can be in another room talking away and when I go check on her she is just blabbing to the wind. From the night I brough her home she has slept half on my pillow to the point I went out and got and extra large so we can both fit our heads. It is just get having critters.

Good morning everyone!

Here's my hatcher this morning - 11 babies!

1 Black Orpington, 3 Light Sussex, 3 BLRW, 1 greyish mystery chick with single comb, black beak and legs that was marked as a BLRW, 2 Black Copper Marans (not sure but think only 1 has feathed legs), and 1 Welsummer! The other Orpington egg has pipped and that just leaves 4 Welsummers with no pip. I can't wait to take pics of my mystery chick. One of the many reasons I'm anxious to get them into the brooder! I'm totally in love with the little mystery chick. I thought if you guys don't know I'll email the seller just to see. The more variety the better as far as I'm concerned! And he definitely mixed up a couple of egs - one of the BLRWs that hatched was labeled a Sussex!

Greenskeeper - glad your parents are doing alright and can't wait to see pics!

And Coop Scoop Boogie - I've seen that, two - I think on the homemade incubator thread. I don't know that I've seen one here on the NC thread. Good luck!

NH - good luck w/ building today. I hope for both our sakes the rain stays away!!!

NH... I watched the weather this am, they say it is supposed to clear up ????? IDK looks like rain here. And then real nice weather Sun/Mon. I'm doing a little sundance for you

so you can get your roof on.

OK... now I need to whine & complain.... I got BLRW eggs from a BYCer back in Jan. (good feeback, claims they are from real good line) Hatched 3/8 (the rest were not fertile) 2 are splash, 1 is BL. Ok here is the kicker... 2 have straight combs ( A BIG NO-NO). I do send a PM, seller says "sorry your a disapointed in our service" I am obviously not the only complaint. I have not seen another auction on a while here, but do see them on ebay. *sigh* So screw over the ebay buyers. That is just WRONG! If you have a bird that is giving straight combs or has a straight comb...remove said bird from your breeding pen !!!!!

Now here is another part of the problem.... 90% sure all 3 are roosters (OOO what a surprise!) My 8yr old DD has hand raised the BL, named him Rascal, she loves that little guy. AND he has a straight comb! He follows everyone around like a puppy and snuggles in your lap etc...I would certainly keep him if he was a hen and add her to the layers. But I DO NOT need another useless rooster. I am praying that I am wrong and Rascal is a hen, but comb is getting redder everyday and wattles are growing in. He is 2 months old so I am pretty sure I am right about being a rooster.
I plan to sell them all. I hate this !!!

I am considering holding on the Rascal for a little longer, MAYBE... I could add him to the layer coop. I have an old dominant silkie in there, IF he accepts Rascal I could let him be a backup....

I do not want to break my DD heart.

OK enough complaining...........

We will be moving chicks around today, bigger cages, some get to move outside etc.... Have 30 something going to lockdown on Mon.

So lets see some pictures of these singles comb blrw, you know they may make some great project roosters for those looking to bring in the color to their breed.

NH - I'm sorry about the roof, but like you... my plants and new started veggies are thriving from it!!! Hooray!

I've been looking at the chickies from our previous hatches, and I'm trying to guess the sexes. Lets see how good I've gotten at this. The silkies are still 'unknowns', looking like 1 white cochin pullet, 1 red cochin pullet, 1 red cochin roo, 1 ee/silkie roo, 1 ee/silkie pullet and 2 Jap bantam pullets. Usually I know a jap bantam roo in the first 2 weeks, we're on week 4 and no roo signs at all!

What lousy weather today!! So far no rain but I am holding my breath for better (at least warmer) weather. The DD definitely does not like the chilly weather. I can't handle watching the DH up on the roof shingling...makes my nerves shot...lol. the DD doesn't like it either. She's been

at her daddy all morning along with some fussing. Guess the forman is in a bad mood today.

I was shingling but I got fired...apparently I don't shingle straight.

I could have told him that!! HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!

Bhep - sorry about your predicament!! That stinks. However, if you are looking for a BLRW w/ a straight comb I may have your man! I just know one of these guys is a boy. He's huge w/ gigantic feet and trampling everyone and trying to fly around! Of course, I know nothing about chicks or chickens or roosters, really so who knows!!!!

But I do know they're cute!!!!
