chicks can vary in their poo when they are young or even older for that matter. I think some stress more than others, your heat can also be a tad too hot for them, some may not adjust to feed as good as others. I think just like everything else, no two are alike and going to act the same way. As long as they are eating and drinking and don't look like they are distressed I would say you are fine and they will outgrow it or over come it, just keep an eye on them.

Holy brooder chickens!!!!! Six of my bantams are brooding. They crack me up. They are trying to hatch pine chips....I collect eggs every morning/night if I see one. They grunt at me screem at me in the morning and when they come out for food and drink they are pychotic and funny. The rest of the chickens just look at them. Two of the D'uccles are brooding and when they flip into their crazy state they poof out like a mini turkey. i tried to get a picture but have not had a chance to down load them yet. Even my dogs get out of their way. To too funny.

Thanks for the scoop on poop everyone!

The one speckled sussex didn't make it. It's a bummer, but I'm not overly surprised. It has been a very stressful week and not just because they got stuck going home with a first time chicken mom. I know they got very cold at night when the power was out before we got the generator up and running. The really odd thing I noticed is that her feet/legs were really dark compared to the other chicks. I don't know if perhaps she got a little trampled or if it was just cold or what.

The rest of them are doing fine. Their poo has firmed back up and they are all running around the brooder like silly birds. I got the lid for the brooder mostly made too and with luck, we'll have the coop ready by the end of this weekend.

Busy, busy days at work. didn't get home until 9 pm last night. Collected fertile eggs in the dark from the BLRW, but left the eating eggs until today. Got five from the BLR's and had 6 from the others. Tried to to carry then all in at the same time and was greeted by all the cats and my little Minion wanting to be picked up like always. Did manage to save the BLR's and had to have egg burritos for dinner. Looks like I need to get a collecting basket

If anyone is interested I have some chicks available:

Trio of Lavender & Split black orpingtons - cockerel is lavender, pullets are split blacks and will produce lavender offspring. They are 3-4 weeks old now.

Two bantam cochin chicks - I think they are both blue, one may be black?? They are two weeks old.

Several black bantam orpington chicks or various ages.

Also just went into lockdown this evening, have only two lav splits off my big english orp girls but have 6 blues off my big English orp show rooster (can't wait

). Have a few of my choc project eggs and two blue bantam orps, hoping for some more gorgeous blue laced pullets.

Also thought I would share this gorgeous chick. She is from my bantam orpington mille fleur project. I have had no others hatch like her so this is very interesting, she is buff mottled!!

I am looking forward to her growth to see how she finishes, may be a whole new flock for me.
