HT: The first thing I do when I believe a chick has ingested anything toxic is to 'flush' the chick. This is simple to do. Just dissolve 1 teaspoon Epson Salt into 1 ounce of warm water. Use an eyedropper/syringe(no needle) to give the chick about half a crop full of the clear liquid. This flushes the chick's insides out to remove any toxins from the digestive system.

I used this just yesterday to save a month old bantam that seems to have ate some molded food. He was back to 100% by this evening. That little one got about 1/3 - 1/2 of a CC. With how moist it was last week any feed dust on the ground anywhere molded. The chicks are running free with their mother and that one must have ate some of it. Anytime this is done I make sure to have extra Vits/Nuts in their water to replenish them.

I do not know if this would be useful to you since it has been a while since exposure.

Matt

LOL - I always hang onto them! That is my issue! I sell silkies constantly - I have shut down sales since the cocci set in...hopefully it will run its course and I will be back to healthy happy ones soon...I only lost 1 today - so it is slowing down...unfortunately it was one of my gorgeous buff silkies...this little one had the HUGEST vaulted skull and the prettiest, fullest feet...it was a sweetie too...I am noticing that after the cocci the pasty butt is awful too - I have been rinsing butts all day. I felt bad, but I have been pulling the down feathers off of the butts of the ones that have it all the time...it keeps them from getting mushed back up again....I just tell myself it hurts as bad as getting your upper lip waxed...it makes me feel better - but the chicks don't feel the same way!!!

Thanks for the get well wishes - I will tell the biddies

Honestly, I do the same. It does help keep the poop build up to a minimum.

Good Morning everyone!!

Just had to come on and tell you all that my DH was so excited today. He was leaving for work this morning when I was letting the gang out and he heard for the first time.... Jeremy crow!! He was as giddy as a schoolgirl with a crush, honestly!! Jeremy put on a good show too, crowing 3 times!! What was cuter was the other two roos who haven't crowed yet, were "trying" to crow...you could see them stretching their necks, but no sound was coming out. Cute!! Anyway, I just wanted to share that little touching moment with you all. It seems that Jeremy is now the DH's favorite boy out there too!!

Our Orp's have not started yet - so Jeremy is ahead of the gang - it is so easy to have a special one like your Jeremy , they are smart enough to do cute stuff that makes us fall in love with them.

Yesterday we also had a big " FIRST TIME " moment - Gavin saw Henry ( the black auction winner rooster ) have his wicked way with my little Cupcake ( splash silkie ) ... I am so gald I did not see it . Gavin said it lasted about 3 seconds but , she has not laid a egg yet does the nasty start before the egg ????
