Looks like a great bandage. If her bone is broken, I would add a split. the goal to immobilze the joint above and below the break to keep it from moving so it will heal faster. you can do this by taking a peice of coat hanger and and shaping it to the leg along the outside part, place it right over the bandage you have made and add some more wrapping. It will provide some support and hopfully lessen any pain. Good luck with her.

Thanks!

Could I use a pencil? We only have plastic hangers in the house. I also set up a Chick Chair for her, which I think has helped her a little.

You can use any thing that is light and firm. Too heavy and it can pull the bandage off or put stress on the limb. Where is the break exactly? near one of the joints or near the middle? I like a wire coat hanger because you can bend it to follow the the contours of the leg and and get it above the joint above the break. PVC pipe is great for bigger critters and when you need to brace a radius/ ulna or a tibia/ fibula these bones are bigger and can take the weight of the splint.

Her leg from the hock joint down was just flopping all over the place. I can remember all the fancy words right now

but her thigh is fine but it is the bottom half of her leg and foot. At first I thought the Achilles Tendon slipped but once I started feeling around there was nothing. She doesn't have much feeling in her foot she just caries the leg up and will hop on one foot

Hi! I found these people on chicktrader.com D&D Poultry 704-721-4969 They are in Concord NC. I have never bought anything from them so I don't know if they are good or bad. They sell Buff Orpington hatching eggs $4.00/doz and Barred Rock $4.00. They also sell chicks also. I have not been on chicktrader.com recently b/c I'm having computer predator issues so I'm just paranoid.

D&D Poultry, are awesome!! Donna is really nice, she is actually who I got my first buff orpingtons from, very pretty birds too. She is NPIP certified and she has several Chicken Swaps set up at Tractor Supply is Concord, Lexington, and Statesville (I think) Good Luck

Allabout and mychickensrock - GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm hoping to do a bed in my run, too! I'll have to check out that seed mix. I've been reading about different options - that sounds easy!

All my babies made it last night! And the little guys are holding their own! I put them in 1st yesterday:

Today I managed to install 2 solar lights - one in the coop and one motion detector flood light, hung the feeder, and a few other little things all with both little ones underfoot. Oh, and picked up the Reedy Forks Farm feed which looks great! Didn't have nearly the drive as Ruthann, so for me that will be much cheaper and easier than the Countryside Organics, so I'm happy! Hope the chicks like it!

Now what do I do with my 2 Welsummer boys!? Doesn't anyone out there need a roo!!!

I managed to get some new photos of the girls today. They are 8 weeks old today. I am glad that I haven't lost any yet, and they all look super healthy I think.

I have three Barred Rocks too, but didn't manage to take any decent photos. The coop didn't get finished like planned last weekend. Hopefully, this weekend!
