My DH makes hutches that we use as grow out pens. It really just depends on what youngsters I am putting with what adults as to when I incooperate. Some get started as early as 10-12 weeks with adults, others may be a whole group of older juvi's that become one entire new group. Juvi's usually learn to stay out of the way of the big ones in a pen and do just fine.

That is very true...I didn't notice until the second time, that it was less food for the same money. But I am using 2 bags of the omega versus the 3 bags of crumbles/pellets I was using before so I can't really complain.

Thanks for that note on the marigold... I may stay away from this as my white silkies are my show quality ones and don't need anymore yellowing problems. Blue shampoo won't fix that! LOL

HT.... the pens on the right.... are those rabbit feeders ? ANOTHER good idea ! And I suppose the floors are solid ? I have built myself 2 pens, but with wire bottoms, did not think ahead... should have made a solid floor and double decked them.

I'm curious about the doors your DH made for them. BTW: Do you hire him out??

Hello everyone...long time since I've been on...there was like 9 pages. Boy you all are a talkative bunch!!

BHep - I want you to know I voted for Mr. Wolfman!!

He was one of my favorites, and I held off on "5" until I saw him!!

good luck getting him into the calendar!! As for duck eggs...you know I'll happily drive out to spend the day visiting you and collecting some!!

I have decided that I NEED more laying hens

....maybe some female ducks, right BHep?? LOL My daughter is eating almost ALL of the eggs that are laid daily (averaging 4-5 day with the Marans' eggs being the biggest) so I have NONE in the house to cook with or <gasps> BAKE WITH!!

The worst thing I ever did was to teach her to sign "egg" because now I ask her what she wants to eat.... "EGG" she has been asking for eggs for breakfast, lunch AND dinner!! Good thing I only let her have them once (okay sometimes twice) a day!!

I have been busy in my sewing room. I am working on making a Dr. Seuss quilt for DD's NEW "big girl" room (it has a gender neutral theme of Dr. Seuss....who doesn't LOVE Dr. Seuss - afterall, he first told us about GREEN EGGS!!

)....when we move her into the new room and get the "old" nursery (Paddington Bear & forest themed room) ready for baby #2....good thing I have until April to get it finished. Grandma decided to buy and send her enough fabric to make two matching (yet slightly different) twin size quilts so the beds can match!!

On top of that, I am making two memorial quilts (one from my grandfather's silk ties for my aunt and father) and a t-shirt quilt from my grandmother's sweatshirts (for my niece who slept with G'G's sweatshirts for months after she passed away)....I am working on making a quilt for my sister & brother in law for their new room, then finally a baby quilt for my sister in law who is due...5 days BEFORE me, all the while still working on outfits for DD. (Did I mention that my SIL's baby is perfect timing as it likely means my MIL will fly to London for the birth of her eldest daughter's first baby and leave me alone!!

Not that I wouldn't LOVE to have her here....yeah, that's it

)

All this (and constant morning sickness, which reared it's ugly head again) has caused me to neglect you all and for that I apologize.

I did read and play catch up though...does that count?

Wow, HT!! If I ever run away from home me and my chickens are coming to live with you and yours!! I love the way he made the doors. What kind of feeders are those? I've never seen them before. How old are the birds you keep in those pens? I think my chicks are to the point where they need some more space. I have two I think are Roos who like to chest butt and square off. Only lasts a few seconds, but at 4 weeks I thought they were too young for that!
