North Carolina

Good Morning Everyone!!

HT - I am SO glad you do not have any LF for sale in that previous post....or else I might get myself in TROUBLE!!
hide.gif
They are all beautiful as expected and I wish you the best of luck finding great homes for them!!
smile.png

JL - I do hope you feel better soon!! I hope your students get stuck with a mean old substitute so when you come back they are ever so grateful and BEG you never to get sick again!!
smile.png
(My younger kids always got the new, fresh out of college hottie that made me feel like chop liver when I came back.
lau.gif
fl.gif
Here's hoping you don't get that!!)

Vfem & Matt - when do you find out about all of your ribbons??
fl.gif
hoping for all blues for all of your hard work!!
big_smile.png

Buttercup - be careful...HT's birds are addictive (and I only have some that came as eggs from her to another BYC'er to hatch!!). I want to
droolin.gif
every time I think about having one of hers...then I remind myself most are SQ and I wouldn't know what to do with one of those!!
gig.gif

Ally - I am so sorry you are going through such a mess!!
hugs.gif
I have heard from other BYC'ers here that say you have to be really careful at the auctions because there are a lot of cruel people out there who not only sell sick birds but dying ones as well (which they medicate up intensely to look "good" enough for the auction). I am so sorry you had to go through something like this!!
fl.gif
I do hope the rest of your flock is okay and that you are doing okay with this loss. I am sure there are some people here that will fill your bater full of eggs when you are ready to try that route!! Since we're neighbors I'd offer you some eggs to try hatching...only I have NO idea if they're fertile or not and....
lau.gif
my girls are on a laying strike!!
gig.gif
Regardless, if you want to try a few, let me know and I'll put them aside for you as I get them!! Please keep us posted on how things are going for you!!
hugs.gif
Sorry again for your loss!!

BHep - I tried to hold out for you...did it work?? I can't tell.
tongue2.gif
if not!! LOL So...PM me sometime and we'll get together. You can check out your girls and see how they are fairing over here!!
smile.png
You bring your sewing machine (and a few ducks....what?? Did I just say that?? NAH, must be your eyes playing tricks this early in the morning!!
lau.gif
) and we'll have a quilting/sewing day!! I am working on a new Dr. Seuss quilt for the "kids" room (once I design it that is...okay, once I design it and DH figures out all the math/dimension for it!) and still have a few other projects in the work. I'll also be working on a baby quilt for my SIL (not the one who just left) who is due...4 days before me!!
big_smile.png
I'm not busy until Thanksgiving when the IN LAWS visit, so whatever works for you!!
smile.png

So I have decided that this new baby is a night owl. 2:30am rolls around and I am WIDE awake - no matter how late I go to bed, 2:30 on the dot and I am WIDE awake. I drank a gallon of chamomile tea hoping that would keep me asleep...nope, now I am wide awake while feeling my body dragging.
lau.gif
Once this little one arrives, we're going to have a stern talking to...momma is NOT a night owl (never was) and does best with some serious beauty rest...say at least 6 hours!!
lau.gif
Somehow I think I am fighting a losing battle!! Had a picnic outside yesterday with DD AND the chickens. She LOVED that they were all inquisitive as to her blueberries and two of the more dominant females (and Jeremy our #1 roo) all took a blueberry from her rather gently!! I was VERY impressed at how gentle they were.
lau.gif
The Marans DESPERATELY wanted a blueberry but were not brave enough to get close to the "little monster" who squeals whenever one gets close!!
hu.gif
She does the same thing with the cats...it's quite funny. Regardless, it was good therapy for her busted lip as she was sitting outside smiling at all the chickens and every time I went to hang laundry out on the line, she was trying to run outside to "feed" the chickens!! No wonder they flock to her when she's outside!!
lau.gif
It was a great time. Hope everyone else had a good day!!

Suppose to rain most of today for those of us east of the mountains. Try to stay warm and dry out today!! Have a great one everyone!!

Oh I know how addictive they are, lol I have 13 just from her now...Luckily, all I usually have to do is tell Hunter I'm going to Tricia's and he is ok with it. He did tell me we need to finish our coop first, but he might not notice the little serama pair, especially since they are as friendly and sweet as the pair I just got from her
love.gif

Off to work I go

atleast it is raining so I won't be missing too much around the farm

frow.gif
Good morning! Blah to this rain!
sickbyc.gif
My chickens felt the same way when I went out this morning. They act like it's my fault and yell at me when it's raining! Sookie STILL hasn't laid an egg, but yesterday she sat an inch away from Esme the whole time she was laying which Esme was not a fan of - she was squaking and almost hissing at her! But hopefully Sookie's about to get it!

Ally, my faves as far as personality are my Sussex! They are so funny and sweet! But my Marans are giving me eggs, so they're up there, too! They are very "chatty" which is pretty entertaining, too. And I love my big fluffy Cochin from greeneacres for her gentle nature and all her fluffy glory. But I really love them all! Just 9 girls for me, so unfortunately I have no eggs to share with you.
hmm.png
But I live in a neighborhood and don't want my neighbors to hate me! Maybe one day I'll get to be a real farm girl!!!!

Jl - Feel better!!!!!!! Maybe if you're not too miserable you can enjoy your day off a bit with a fun movie and some ice cream!

NH - I hope the baby chills out for ya so you can get some sleep!

HT - My fam is planning a trip to the mountains so if you have any LF for sale come the beginning of December you better let me know!!!!
big_smile.png
Oh, and Gavin and I were chatting and decided that you need to be in charge of creating a large fowl Silkie!!!!!!!!! What do you think? You can do it!!!!!!!!!

Good day everyone!!
smile.png

Good morning!
Well, after 3 doses of meds I feel better, at least my throat. My body feels a bit like I've taken a beating, but I think it's nothing a couple of motrin won't cure.

NH I love the story about your picnic! My kids love picnics too and my birds LOVE blueberries!! I bet it was really fun. My drs "forgot" to tell me while pregnant with twins who were also night owls that I could've been taking Tylenol PM to help me sleep at night. Now, you can't take it first trimester, but it was safe after that. If you really can't sleep it might help. They didn't tell me until the last week before my c-section and at that point I was so wired it didn't matter anyway. You've got enough time it could help!

Vfem thanks for the good wishes. I got three texts last night from students but the sub caller is planning on assigning the meanest sub we have today. I expect by second pd I'll have to plug my cell in to recharge!! How did your entries at the fair do?

SCM thanks! I hope to one day be a farm girl too! So far, no go!

This pair is just as sweet as yours.

I don't know how that even happen because the parent stock hates to be touched.
hmm.png
These little ones come to the cage door and wait for you to open it so they can perch and have their tummy rubbed and talk to you.

HT NH needs these Seramas to pet during those hrs when she is awake. It will help her relax. I think alot of people keep them as house chickens anyway?

I'm going to say the baby made me do it?!?

So I have a few funny things to share with you all this morning. First off...I have created an egg SNOB!! My chickens are on a laying strike (or more probable are laying in the woods) and so I have only been getting about 2 eggs a day. Well I don't have any today so I fixed DD some organic eggs from the grocery store...she literally TURNED HER NOSE up at them!!
lau.gif
Who knew that she would know the difference (although I will say for organic "free ranged" eggs...their yolks were NOT as orange as mine are...and mine only free range for 1/2 the day!!). Secondly, not only do my Marans lay the BIGGEST eggs out of the bunch, but their shells are seriously the toughest of the lot!! Compared to my orpingtons, the marans' eggs can be dropped on the floor (5 second rule, right??) and not even crack!! Someday when we get a few more, I may have to get a Maran Roo so I can keep the Marans going!!
big_smile.png
Personality wise...my Orps take the cake!! Anyone know what an Orp/Maran cross would look like?? Or better yet, an Orp/Maran/EE cross (if the "mutt" ever went broody)?? Just curious as to what "mutant" crosses may look like!!
lau.gif
Aside from working here and there without power because of the rain...I have no more funny news for you!!

JL - Thank you for the heads up on the Tylenol PM!! Now if I can only find one that is similar yet NOT Tylenol (which I am allergic to - go figure!!). All the tea does is make me have to potty more often!! As if THAT is needed!! I am thankful I am only dealing with one...more power to you for twins - wow!!
fl.gif
keeping my fingers crossed twins don't come my way (even though we have a family history of twins on my maternal side!!)
hugs.gif
Hope you are feeling better!!
clap.gif
YAY for the uber mean sub!!
lau.gif

HT - I agree with SCM....you need to come up with a LF Silkie...I'd be in line for one of those...then again, I'm already in line for one of your English Orps....because they are SO CUTE and cuddly and fluffy!! Sorry...got lost in the chicken moment!! As for your sweet pair...I think it has a lot to do with their adoptive mother making them so friendly and approachable!!

Thanks for your concern! Luckily, I've impressed myself with my ability (for the most part) to think of our flock as livestock and not as pets, much to my husband's surprise! (and for now) haha

I didn't realize you are pregnant-congratulations! I'm sure everyone else knows, but when are you due!?
