Wellllll............. I just don't follow the rules
I have all shapes & sizes together. It works here for me. Everyone knows their place.
The only birds that are separated are Peacocks & Pheasants, for obvious reasons. Now my young peachicks are and will grow up with the chickens. And I have been building pens to separate out my breeders so I can offer pure eggs.
SCM... your idea for a brooder box is perfect. I use them and regular dog crates. Keeps everyone safe & sound. Then as the chicks get a little bigger, you can open the door and mama can take the babes out for a stroll and they can go back in the box at night.
I have beautiful Gold Laced Polish that have not laid an egg in..... I don't know how long
Long enough for me to set their last 3 eggs they laid and to hatch them out last week.
BRATS!!! Also have Silver laced pair & a Buff laced pair....all just a smidge to young to lay.
Did I mention that broody is contagious ?
I have 8
. I just leave a dud egg or 2 under them, then switch the dud egg out for some egg that are just about to hatch.
NH... What about Tink? Will you keep her now? You should....yup, I am a cat enabler too.
I am sure she would love to move in.
And you know what !!!!! I am going to incubate some Austrolorp eggs for you.....by the time you convince DH, I should be able to sex them...
JL.... hope you made the day........
I used to drive a school bus, sorta hated pep rally days. The kids would get on the bus PUMPED ! ACkkkk what a ride !!
Nope....don't miss it at all.
