duck n' cover!!!! Hawk!........DENIED!!!!!! But he wanted to see what was up!!! Time to feed the crows.... Silly turkeys keep eating my crow feed! Guess I'll make them a sign "Crows only!" Hopefully he got my drift this morning with me yelling and popping off a blank or two! Thank goodness for bird netting! Ha. Wife said he saw it last second and almost fell into the net he stopped so fast. Freeloader!!!
Ok, I have a question and I really don't feel like starting a thread for it so I'll ask here.
I noticed today that 2 of my EE pullets (I assume they can't be called hens till they are laying?) are very feather picked on their backsides. The other 6 chickens have full feathering on the backsides so it only seems to be a problem for these 2 pullets. Both have bare spots on their behinds. If I recall right from what I have read on BYC feather picking can be a sign of a protein deficiency. Am I correct? Or is there another reason for it? We just bought new feed today and will be starting it when we run out of the Start and Grow they have been on. We just bought Flock Raiser, which I think has a higher protein content than the Start and Grow. Will this help the feather picking? I think I saw one of the other pullets eating a feather today too.
I assume that means that some feather eating could be going on too? How do I handle the bare behind issue? The chickens are 16weeks old. 6 pullets, 2 cockerals. Another quirky thing with my chickens, I have yet to hear either rooster crow.
Not sure why they do that...maybe the pecking order thing. ???
I don't think I heard my EE rooster crow until they were 4-6 months old. Yours are right about there. Now my Seramas.... they crow about 2-4 weeks old.
