North Carolina

Ruthann, well what a coincidence!!

Allison gets home from work this afternoon to find a hawk in the middle of our drive pulling something apart. She immediately thought of the chickens... It didn't even fly off as she approached it, then saw a tail by it's feet. So, thankfully the hawk either got a mouse or lizard basking in the sun.....

And just to let you know all the chickens are ok..........

I hope the bird survives...

Good morning!!
So no one knows of where a fellow North Carolinean can get some pullets so I can have colorful eggs? do you think I'd find some at the Winston-Salem show on the 26th?

PS: what a gorgeous fall we're having!! I hope you all enjoy this wonderful day!

Try this guy.

I am pretty sure he has blues. He always has a post in the Greensboro section of CL when he has chicks.
ETA: He is in Stokesdale.

Here is his latest CL ad for Ameracaunas. http://greensboro.craigslist.org/grd/2680077032.html I know he sells organic food and is NPIP certified. He has lots of other heritage breeds too so he may have the BCMs you want too.

Good luck! Hope they've got some for ya! I've got one little blue Ameraucana girl and she's one of my last holdouts. I have an EE giving me blue eggs but can't wait for hers! She's a funny little thing - very curious and a little spastic!

Thanks suburbanchickymama! I think I'm actually closer to you! I live in Pittsboro but work in Cary... Do you like your blue girl? I fell in love with one I saw at a show, I gotta have one! And one lavender also... And some Marans... Hehe. And to think a year ago I told my husband all I wanted were three chickens, no roosters... We now have 19, including two roosters (a Delaware and a Dark Brahma...). :)

Thanks to all my peeps for your support! I am incredibly thankful for this community. I seem to be coming out of the sick world, finally! My sinus's were all jammed up... Hopefully the coon will find my trap tonight! I'll relocate its hide to the entryway of my coop and let Conan's gang wipe there feets off on it! It's the least I can do for it leaving me such a mess, as if I needed it. What a 24 hours! Note to self: no more being sick.
Welcome all the new folks!
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.....There is no other option. I checked all the reports!

Glad to have you here!! Everyone here is absolutely WONDERFUL!!

Hawk update: We drove out to the Triangle rescue in Durham last night (DD was NOT happy...she spent a total of 4 hours of her life in a car yesterday between picking up feed and rescuing a stupid hawk [no offense hawk]) got stuck in some NASTY traffic with a bird that was trying to tear the box open it sounded like. I was sicker than a dog - great time to get hit with another bout of "morning" sickness (curse you morning sickness, I loathe you!!) We did find out that there is a law on the books in NC that depending on the species of hawk/falcon - you can get fined up to $1500 if you do nothing!! Glad we made the drive, even though all 3 of us were miserable!! A special shout out to my DH who came home early from work so that I wouldn't have to drive with DD up there alone!!

Just in case anyone else in Johnston county finds an injured bird the next couple of days...the local biologist for Johnston county is on vacation - and would you believe they have NO back up!!

Seriously, WHAT are they thinking?!? The people at the Charlotte Raptor Rescue rehab place (I can't remember the name) were really nice and gave us a dozen or so numbers to call!! Needless to say, the bird was being looked after last night - they looked at it right away because the wing was badly broken and there was an open wound (I think from where it broke, possibly broke open). When I described the wound, the lady tried to tell me it was hit by a car...I said only if cars fly because there is no way that bird could have made it onto my property after being hit by a car....we're a mile from the nearest road!! A crop duster maybe (but I have never seen one of those around me) but definitely NOT a car. I said I thought it was the cat who attacked/played with it (yay that it's not OUR cat...no liability!!) and got bored, left it...then it tried to hide in the shed where it was confronted by 2 hens which sent the roo (

Cotton-tail our hero) over to defend the harem that he's not allowed near!!

I do hope this act of valour at least gives Cotton-Tail a chance with the ladies now that Jeremy and Timmy were cowering under the deck across the yard from the action (some protectors THEY are!!) I have a case number and I will call to check up on the bird later on this afternoon and when I do, I will update you all.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your help/encouragement!!

BYC is so great!!

G&A: I am VERY happy to hear it was a mouse and not one of your babies!!

I hope you are feeling better!!

Matt - I am glad that I have not been INFECTED with the incubating dilemma....YET!! Give BHep some more time, and I am sure she will continue to affect me and perhaps even transmit her very VERY contagious disease along!! Out of curiosity...what did you finally decide on, or have you been good and are "holding out" until April??
