Sounds like all of us chicken folk have been spending lots of quality time in the kitchen this week! I've got lots more to do but lots done too. Vfem, you'd be proud! I've gotta try and fix it!!! It is very tasty! Hope you're all having fun getting ready for the holiday!! Have a good night!

I had an accomplished week. My floors are done after approx. 2 years. No joke the laminate floor has been sitting in my front foyer since March 2010. Sold a refrigerator that someone "stored" here approx. 4 years ago. I have a silo full of stuff that he "stored" here and have not heard from him in 2 years. Going to have a yard sale in the spring.

Sold my horse trailer that I have not used in 2 years. And gave away a couch I had to one of my "egg ladies" , she was beyond happy.

Went x-mas caroling last night, at a local nursing home with my Church family. We go once month to celebrate birthdays. These are the good thing that happened to me this week.

As for funny...... 4 kids..... always something funny or aggravating going on.

Example.... boys think it is FUNNY to throw spears (aka: sticks they sharpened ) at my DD, since she is a "Gombie". I think it is hilarious that they think I am going to buy them knives & throwing stars when we are at the feed/hunting/junk store .

Good Morning Everyone!!

Double T - I will share something I did yesterday and hope it brightens your day (if not you get an excuse to laugh at me!!). I was doing my weekly bathroom cleaning when somehow I broke the toilet seat...it just popped off in my hands. I laid it next to the toilet for DH to look at it when he got home and went about finishing up my cleaning - right down to the baseboards!! Well, if you know anything about pregnant women, they have the memory of a goldfish, so later on that day, I went to go potty...and well...I fell in!!
lau.gif
At least I fell into a CLEAN toilet, but I still fell in!! To make it all worse, apparently the toilet lid snaps back into place which DH did in a matter of 2 seconds!!

Ally - you are welcome our way anytime!! We'll definitely set something up after the Christmas & New Year season and schedule a play date or something. Be warned...I do live in the boonies!!

I have happy news: while Susan is not perked up (her tail is still down) completely, aside from her tail, she seems to be back to her old self. I don't know if this is the calm before the storm, or if we are seeing signs of improvement...I'm going to hold onto the idea that she's improving!!
Today we hand deliver our baked goodies to our neighbors! My favorite older gentleman (he is the farmer who always brought DD squash/zucchini from his garden this past summer) is having a rough time...not sure if he and his wife are separated, or if she is just away visiting family, but he always seems to be "alone" over Christmas. Last year she went to KY to visit their kids and left him for 3 months!! He works and farms, so he couldn't just up and leave. Broke my heart to see him all alone for Christmas. Last year I brought him a goodie bag and this year I made him a goodie BOX!! After all, DH and I definitely do NOT need all these cookies/candies/treats laying around. As we approach Christmas I ask you to think of one person you may know who is struggling (whether financially or emotionally) and let them know they are cared for be it a smile, a kind word/deed or just something little. The holidays are always the times when suicides are the highest, and you never know what that one little thing you do does to that person!! Okay, I am off my emotional soapbox - I hope no one was offended by that!!

This is a very exciting week for me. I got my very first egg on Tuesday - over the mooooon!!! No egg yesterday - a little disappointing but not surprising. But this morning Rue was in and out of the nesting box a few times when I took the girls their breakfast AND Betty squated for me when I walked by her. I might have more eggs today!

COOP! I actually just made my first chicken sale....!!!! Not my first egg sell but I sold a pair of black silkies for 50 very' bucks!!! since I sold 2 I think I get ?how many more? LOL my neighbors are sure to hate me come spring time!

Good morning all!!

Got up this morning to 9 out of 14 eggs hatched out, all are doing well.......... The dry incubation method seems to be working well for me..... so far....

After finding 5 Silkie eggs yesterday (I know the culprit - Cottonball) I pick up one of the black silkies this morning to find an egg...... Needless to say it went in to the incubator with the other 5.

The Barred Rocks and Buff's are starting to turn red again in their combs so maybe egg laying will resume sometime soon......

Welcome to all newbies here, too many to mention but welcome........

Here is a great place to learn about dressing a chicken. http://www.butcherachicken.blogspot.com/ I studied, and studied it before i did my second turkey ( first was about 29 years before) I think the most important part is fasting him overnight to be sure his digestive track is empty, but feed him right before so you can find the crop. If you don't have a pot big enough to scald all at once, I have poured the water over parts and pucked while more has boiling. It will take you twice as long as you think, but it is worth it.
