What a horrible end to a terrible day. They say bad things come in 3s I guess I didn't expect for all three to happen TODAY. 2 personal life disappointments happened today then to top it off I had a pack of stray dogs attack tonight.

I'm not sure HOW they got in the coops because I closed them up myself tonight. By the time I heard anything I have 15 dead or missing. Both roosters are gone, my new big white rock hen(who of course started laying regularly and gave me my FIRST double yolker today), all my layers and almost all of the Freezer Camp roosters. I found one Delaware pullet with minor injuries but don't expect to find any tomorrow. I hit 2 of the dogs with the shotgun before they were all gone. There were about 5-6 of them. I'll burry them in the morning.

It looks like I'll be starting over. I'm ready to cry out of pure frustration.....I had just the right number of birds and the mix I wanted. I was ready for spring laying and babies. Not sure I'll have time to catch up now.

I'm left with:
1 Cuckoo Maran
1 BCM pullet
1 Splash maran youngster(roo probably)
1 Delaware pullet

They got into 3 different coops....I'm thinking they had help and will be installing some security lights over the next few days.

Anyone have a nice large DP type rooster that needs a home? I will need to restart my DP flock. darn.

I am glad to hear that you did at least get a couple of the culprits. It's sad owners don't keep up with their pets.

I am a true believer in hot wire around coops, knock on wood three years and never one incident.

Wish you were closer I could help you out if you were interested. All I have though is a young marans cockerel or two and some freshly hatch EE babies. And them of course hatching eggs.

I was also wondering what DP stands for.

Be on the look out for those dogs, they may just come back now that they know there is a free meal and just some plain old killing to be done.

I put a hot wire around my whole chicken run and coops. I happen to have a large predator charger (to keep bears away from my bees) near by. I have had several dogs and other critters touch it but they don't try again. This was the best thing I did to protect my chickens. I have lost them to dogs, coyote and hawks while free ranging but so far I have not lost any to predators inside the fence/coop.

I think one of the smaller pet (doggie size) chargers would work well. We used one of those several years ago to stop our lab from jumping the chain link fence. After hitting it twice, he would back up if he saw electric fence wire.
