Yesterday I went out and inspected the sheep shed I want to turn into another chicken house. I drew up plans and this morning I showed hubby what I'm wanting. We'd discussed it, but he wanted a drawing. He likes what I came up with, so he'll be measuring for lumber this morning. Yay! I can go ahead and get the chicks I want to put there, as I don't have to worry about seperating them until they are at point-of-lay, so he's got plenty of time. And he likes building projects. I'm helper, but he Must. Be. In. Control. of all building projects.
Which suits me just fine!
So, the sheep shed (currently 16 x 20) will have one section for storing feed, and two sections for chickens. It's centered in a split pasture, and I had it set up so the sheep could be directed one way or the other, and we'll re-fence for chickens and keep that going. So one half can use one pasture, and the other half can use the other pasture. One side will get a new-to-me breed of chickens...Wyandottes. The other side will be used for growing out birds that will either go to freezer camp or be sold. It won't be done on time to put this year's meat chickens in it, so they'll have to be done in the old place this year. Then I can put that area back into use for brooding and growing chicks. Yay!
I still want to convert the rabbit barn into pigeons and coturnix, but that will have to wait until later in the summer, or even next year.
And yes, I'm rambling aimlessly here. Muttering to myself. Hope you don't mind.....
