I know, I think my gf is gonna keep a few to feed to her snakes and my roomie wants to keep a black one, so if I can't find anyone that wants some I'll probably use them as chick treats.... has anyone done this? I read about it but had been a little nervouse to actually try it?

I'd be careful of that - rats are not without their defenses, and they can do a great deal of damage when cornered. Their teeth are at the business end of a set of jaws that can produce an amazing amount of pressure, and the bites typically get infected. The rat might lose in the end, but they'd leave some injured chickens behind first.

ETA: adult rats that is. Babies would be less of a problem, but as a former pet rat owner it kind of creeps me out.

my chickens LOVE finding a mouse nest or a nest of baby skinks....Me I'd just euthanize the extras and freeze for snake food.

We have a few skinks that live under the add-on part of the house that are about 12 or 13 inches long.....great for keeping the bugs away from the doorway and under the house!

Is anyone interested in a side swap? I have 12+ BLUE Sex-link hatching eggs that need a good home. The girls hatch solid blue and the boys hatch blue with a white dot on their head and will end up being blue barred.

My Wish List:
Bantam Barred Rocks
Cuckoo Marans with good egg color
EEs that lay pink eggs
Welsh Harlequin Duck

Any combination and other offers considered.
Wish I had something on your list... I just have EEs and naked neck Easter eggers. I would love to add some blue to my flock!

Meaties and mama hen in the grow out pen! We're going to have to start building the tractor coop next week for them to get more room.

welcome back SCM missed you.

HT hows the chick, goat and horse doing??

Nice coop, Audra, might I suggest a top so no fliers get in and eat birds?

congrats, Hollow

for the rest
The girlies will be cooped-up every night so I'm hoping meanies won't be an issue, but I did tell the hubby that the first bird that get's killed means he's got more work to do.

Finally got some picture today of the new pullets. The mother is Rescue. We rescued her late last year. She is about 10 months old now. She adopted the babies right away and is a great mother. She was out of the box when I first went out, but is very cautious and took the babies back in before I could get my camera for an outside shot.

The babies are 5 days old now and all sexed pullets. In the picture below the 6 on the left are Gold comets and the right 3 are Easter Eggers. I got them from Shook Poultry in Claremont.

I had planned on just the comets, but I got the 3 odd colored EEs while there. All the rest of the EE pullets were chipmunk striped. I wanted something different colored.

Hawks and owls can and do attack during the day and can fly into and out
of an area smaller than 2 feet.....seen it with my pigeons.

A top net is a very good idea.

My broody has been sitting on 12 blue silkies. They are due tomorrow, but today I went out and 4 were alread out of their shells. 3 blue and a splash! The are so CUTE
