North Carolina

Just wanted to thank you guys again for letting me borrow some of your pics. I wasn't able to take pics today because my camera died right when I got to school

but it was still fun. There were Pekins on one side and turkeys on the other.. I wanted soo bad to come home with a few extra animals but I think I might have gotten in trouble lol. The turkeys were called chickens and my chickens were called turkeys... what are they teaching children these days? My ag teacher had never seen a NN before so when he saw the pics on my poster he said "are you sure that's a chicken? and it's normal right?" I just laughed. Well have a good evening everyone! :)

What a sad day.... I went out and one of the little silkies died last night.

Beth, it was the one that DD named Pinkie, the one who was dyed w/ kool-aid from you. :( The ladies in the coop always kept them (Pinkie and her sister) out of the coop at night. It's been so cold the last for nights I had been putting them in the coop. Last night I totally forgot to check, and they were out soaking wet and cold all night and she ended up found huddled in the corner of the run. Her sister is so bummed.

And poor DD, she was just in tears.... not a good day.

Aww... so sorry to hear about your poor silkie.. I hope you can get your DD another one.

On another note.... I have a few blue Muscovy ducks for sale. They are friendly little fluffybutts, if anyone is looking just PM me.

They are the 4 I have circled in the pics below.

I also have 2 Pygmy goats for sale... Both are male... Father & son, actually.
Dad is about a 1 and 1/2 years old. Son is 8 weeks old.

Hi i'm relatively new here. Been lurking for a while now on the BYC site, just found this forum. I am from the beautiful mountains of western NC. I just got some chicks given to me, posted some picks to the guess that breed forum, will get some more current and post here later. Not sure what I have but they are cute...well not really they are feathering and look kinda moth eaten right now. My grandson came in and said Grammie have your chicks got the mange? LOL

Hi C.J. I wish you all the best with your new chicks!

As promised, pics of my redneck feeder and waterer. My reason for "rednecking it" besides the recycling aspect of reusing things that would have been tossed, is my TSC is always out of the chick waterers.

feeder - made from a SoBe bottle and a Parmesan cheese flakes container. I cut 3 evenly spaced holes about the size of a nickle around the bottom of the SoBe bottle and glued it down with aquarium safe sealent. Fills from the top.

waterer - made from a tall square ZipLock container and a water bottle. In 2 sides (so I can put it in a corner) I cut 2 rectangle windows out (one per side) at a height the chicks can easily get into to drink, but not big enough they can climb in, I then made a hole in the lid the size of the water bottle to keep the water bottle from being knocked over and keep flighty little buggers from getting in, then I cut a hole in the bottom of the water bottle under the height of the window. This one fills from the bottom hole on the water bottle, quickly turn over into the ZipLock container and then put lid over bottle.

and we bought a futon for the girls to sleep on this last weekend, and this was in it, it will work great in my 1st brooder for new born chicks!! It is corrugated cardboard with the wavy side still showing!! I will be cutting it to size, placing it in wavy side up and covering with a few paper towels

You are a smart cookie! Truly!!
