How old is the Barred Rock and do you have a profile picture? I don't know if it is just the angle and maybe coloring from the can, but she looks like a HE.

Good Morning Everyone!! I just had cuteness overload looking at the photos of the chicks. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of all of our chicks...should be next weekend (if I did the math right...haha - that's always scary). DH and I decided that since our broody cochin is sitting on 14 eggs )at the last count) that any/all UNMARKED eggs will go to the eggless Maran broody that cannot settle on a nesting box - that is once we move both girls to their new home...when it gets closer to hatching time...I am thinking maybe the beginning of next week?!? How soon can chicks hatch?

Those of you doing fermented feed...are you only using it on your meaties or are you using it on your whole flock? Just curious...I haven't made my way through the post that Beth linked us!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Sounds like everyone has had some eventful weeks. Sorry for everyones losses...

Pretty sure if I had neighbors dogs attacking my girls they would be strung up..

On a lighter note My new girls are still in the broder box tryed to intergrate the two bigger ones from beth this weekend but my old girls werent having it. So I will wait till my new cochins get a bit bigger and put them all in at once. I figure four new four old should make it a little easier. Any sugggestions on bringing new girls into the flock would be great first time for me.

Also I have a Black Jersey Giant roo i have to give away if anyone is interested. He is free to a good home.

And last but not least looking for a Barred rock or Barred olive egger or Dominique pullet. 2-4 months old if any one has one they would like to part with pm me.

Morning all !

I am giving the FF to my whole flock in the AM....regular feed for dinner. They love it.

NH... when you put your broodies into the tent, you can split the eggs between them. They don't care. They may even share baby duty.

I'm sadly parting with 4 dominique pullets if you're interested. I forget how old they are but they just got put in with the big girls and they found the smallest hole in the fence and are killing my garden. maybe 2-3 months?

Hollow: are they the ones that look kinda like black stars?

Ya know...I've never seen a black star. They are the multi-colored ones, most of them have a lot of buff overlaid on black. The mostly black ones with bits of copper are the BCMs. Well, there's a few of the mixes that are mostly black, too.

In this pic, the second one up from the bottom right is one. The one just above and slightly left, butt toward camera, is one. The buff cockerel is center. to his left are several of the mixes. There's another mix toward the back.
The one bottom right is a BCM,

Beth, the fermented feed is going over great with my meat birds, even the ducks are eating it up now!

I'm debating on the rest of the flock as my daughter usually helps me feed and she won't touch the fermented stuff (she says its stinky). I thought if you use the fermented you weren't to use regular anymore?
