I'm putting out a pair of live catch traps tonight. After my blue hen got taken Saturday, my niece said she heard something trying to get into the henhouse last night. Her room faces the back. She tells me it was scratching and trying to get in for a while. I asked her why she didn't come get me, and she said she didn't think of it because she was half asleep.

Teenagers.

I'm just trying to decide what to bait the traps with.

May I suggest baiting it with a teenager?!

"Well......got the " nice" rooster, Tank, in with his new ladies last weekend. Only lasted a few days. He decidies he doesn't want his hens..... he wants the maran hens in the next pen soooooooo manages to make a hole in the wire....... slip through and nearly kills my maran roo on another thought............ cute chicks all and a big WOOHOO on getting a fox. we got to catch a possum he is now in time out......... may be awhile before I have australorp eggs I'm think he's more like a brat right now"
CS...if you can read posts...don't worry about Australorps on Dad's account. I'll get him sorted out one way or another. Hope your roo is okay.

I catch the occasional possum in the feedroom helping itself to cat food. I've a tendency to pop a five gallon bucket over them and slide the lid under, then take him for a ride to the other side of the interstate. (You know why the chicken crossed the road? To prove to the possum it could be done.

) The first time I caught one, I walked into the house and asked hubby to take me for a drive. He asked why. I told him I had a possum-in-a-bucket. He didn't believe me!

He put the bucket in the truck and we went for a drive. He was expecting some kind of joke when I opened the bucket, and was surprised to see a possum. (My husband is a recovering city boy.) A couple weeks later, he comes in and asks me to show him how to bucket a possum. He saw one eating cat food. So we go out and I bucket the possum for him. Now we both catch possums. He's proud of his new skill.

Quote: Despite the fact that I've lost a couple chickens to possums, I still like the ugly cusses. I have a tiny stuffed one hanging in my car, and two different big stuffed ones in my office! They're so ridiculous! There was one that we bucketed that we felt so bad for we let him eat his fill of cat food first. He'd been hit by a car, looked like, some time ago. Half his skin was fresh, new, hairless pink-grey skin. He was about half grown, and starving. Guess it took a lot out of him to heal up from that. The cat was even sitting with him! Hubby and I looked at each other, put the bucket down, and watched him fill up on cat food. Then he got his car ride.

Yeah, I know. I should have "Sucker" tattooed on my forehead.
