Ok, so I'm planning on getting a gift for my husband for Father's day. At first I was thinking something he's always wanted... now I'm thinking something that he needs is more practical. Not really practical so much as "giving him a break". He works 60 hour weeks and then comes home and helps me around here when he can. Between the animals, the house, the gardens and the kid... his 1 day off turns into ANOTHER job. I'm sure he could use more downtime with us then time doing chores.

Honestly, my hands are TOO full to take on anymore to help him, I take on more then I can handle! So I was thinking, since we broke the riding mower last year and I surely can't afford $1200+ for a new one right now . We've been borrowing my neighbor's and mowing her's each week as a thank you; which takes 4-6 hours every other sunday including weed eating. What IF I got us some bi-weekly lawn mowing service for the summer? It's not a lump sum up front, so I may be able to get some extra hours at work to cover it for a little while anyway. What would that normally cost for just under an acre? I really can't afford $100 each time, that would put it out of the question, but I was thinking he would SO appreciate the time back more then anything else I could get him.

Otherwise, I'll probably get him a new grill since ours is 8 years old and needs complete replacement of EVERYTHING on it. :p

Opinions or other ideas welcome.... I have to start saving now for whatever I end up getting him.

Last year he got nothing for father's day, birthday or Christmas... we were just in too deep of a jam since 2008. I really feel the need to do something for him. :)

I don't know what it is around your area but when I lived in the city limits of Roxboro we got our around 1 acre mowed and weedeated for 40$ each time...But it wasn't really a business just two guys who made it their main source of income. i would figure it would be more like 60$ or so for your area is a practical range...going for a individual who has a good reccomendation from someone you may know or around your neighborhood as opposed to a full out pro service company would be cheaper.

Good evening everyone. Once again DH decided it was time to move the broody hens NOW because my cochin is sitting on 18 eggs!! We did split up the eggs and she is sitting on 12 while the other one is sitting on 6!! IF they were all to hatch, we would be up to our eyeballs in new chicks - a good problem I assure you!! We put them into the new area and the alpha rooster got down off his perch/roost and began to squawk something fierce!! I hope they are all well adjusted by morning!!

Have a great evening everyone!!

Apologies to those who want broodies, I am in Broody HE double toothpicks.

10 broodies!

I have three nesting boxes in my BLRW pen with 4 broodies in them.

UGH!

I have 14 broodies in empty nest I am removing several times a day and several more walking around ticked off and clucking their heads off. One will get eggs/chicks from the bator that are due Sat. These are eggs I got at chickenstock and forgot about for a week.

I will leave Daisy in the henhouse(public) till the eggs start pipping. I make sure she has been off to eat and then I remove her fake eggs and give her the pipped eggs. Then I cap the nest to keep everyone else away from her. Once a couple hatch and she has a couple more pipped eggs added I will move her. It is extremely easy to move them once they have chicks and pipped eggs.

Crap I haven't cleaned the 5'x2' broody house.

That just moved to the top of my list. Oh and half the roof needs to be replaced and 3 inches of the front left leg rotted off.

A hinge has rusted through on the drop door/ramp.

Good morning all, now light enough to go survey the damage from last night;s storms. I know the coops eyc are fine, one tree split (coming down).......

A good day yesterday, got a replacement Partridge silkie roo - named him Harold, sold 5 chicks, got another buyer coming today, and one on Thursday. And the phase 4 chicken extension will start once everything dries out....
