North Carolina

Yeah, it was strange. I had posted on here that I had a sick baby and Beth answered me, (thank you!), and said it sounded like cocci. I had already been treating all my chicks for that though. I guess she could have caught it regardless. I had the Corid powder that I put in their water. Everyone else is perfectly fine. I just wish I knew what took her down so quickly.

I am sticking with the parasites here on the sudden deaths... cocci or something. With the warm winter, and early humid weather....they didn't go dormant or something. Same with flies and mosquitoes . You won't necessarily see bloody poop with Cocci, there are many strains and older birds CAN get it. Puffed up, lethargic are symptoms. Of course also symptoms of other things...but no signs of respiratory infections, so I would think parasites.

You can treat for Cocci with Sulmet 2 tablespoons per gallon of water for 3 days. Wait a week and treat for worms. Safeguard in the water or Valbazan orally. BUT REMEMBER...throw out the eggs for 14 days after treating for parasites.

Keep in mind... that Cocci is harsh on the birds....but so is the remedy.

Good Morning! The roosters are crowing.

DD wanted to go shopping while down here, so we went shopping yesterday. A bit after noon, she decided she wanted to go to the outlets (a bit over an hour north of me) so we did. I got home in time to dump my car, grab the puppy and make dog class only a few minutes late. I am tired!

But she caught the 12:45 AM train back to DC, so it is once again just me and the hubby. And the critters.

I did get this really great chair, just for the auction! (Okay, and other places) It's a TALL directors chair, which means I don't need my seat lift!

Only problem is, I can't fold it up.

I don't have the hand/wrist strength to pop it just right. I'm still gonna bring it to the next auction I come to, and if I can't get someone to fold it for me, at least I know I can fit it back in my car open! (I love my Element!

) I'll have to tuck myself in the corner so I don't make people mad by being too tall in front of them, but I can get there early enough to crowd MaryRuth.

Enjoy the day everyone. It's starting to get light, so off to do chores.

Thanks everyone. I'm with Beth on this, I decided to start treatment for worms this morning after seeing worms in the poo. :barnie these parasites are gonna be horrible this year.

On a happy chicken note my silkie is broody, my cochin is broody and on of the BOs is broody! :celebrate how many bantam eggs could you put under a silkie?

Hope everyone has a wonderful, happy day! :)

Good Morning Everyone!! I am sorry to hear so many of you are having "issues" with your birds.

I hope things get worked out for you!!

Wild - CONGRATS on all those broodies!! I guess it's that "time" of the year then!! Can't wait to see what they hatch for you...PICTURES when it happens, please!!

No chicken news here. We're expecting company tomorrow, so it will be interesting. My aunt is coming for a "short" visit (just a few days)...but she is SUCH a city gal, she won't stay with us, but in a hotel. I'm not sure how she will feel about seeing all of our chickens roaming the yard (and running up to you hoping for a treat).

Alex suggested I take her to the chicken processing class this weekend; however, I think if I do, we will be blacklisted and she will never step foot in NC again (or eat chicken for that matter)

Still....it's VERY tempting!! My only plans are to head to the grocery store today and work on my girls' dresses. I am attempting to draft a dress - for the very first time because I cannot find any that are a)reasonably priced and b)fit for "feeding a baby"...so when mass marketing fails...you supplement! So glad DH is good at math so I don't have to be!! HEHE.

Have a great day everyone!!

I purchased sulmet yesterday and safeguard also I will be cleaning out my watering systems tonight and adding sulmet first. My flypredators arrived so they will be hitting the yard as well.
Beth thanks again for all the info yesterday
