The deed is done. We have no chickens.

We bought this place in 2003. The people who sold it to us left behind one single chicken. We called her Nellie. It was shortly after we got here that we got chickens of our own, so this is the first time since at least July 2003 that there have been no chickens on this little farm. It's depressing.

Depending on test results, and if they decide to test a third time, we will be able to restock either the first of November or the first of December. Getting chicks at that time of year may not be possible, so we may still be looking at spring. Maybe six months of no chickens. It's like a horror movie that only certain people can understand.

:hugs Hollow I'm so sorry. I can't imagine having to go through something like that. I'm praying the Turkeys test clean so you get back to having chickens. And I have no doubt that our friends/enablers on here will be helping you get some birds back in those coops soon!

If anyone in this area has a greenhouse cold frame or warm patio, they may be interested in the extra large cherry tomatoes vines that I don't have room for in the green house for this year. All tropical plants get to stay, but veggies must be included in the watering system. I want to keep them all, but sadly cannot. There are 3 in (7 gal) containers that I have agreed to let go so far. These plants can also be used to start more for spring if wintered in appropriate climate. They are also indeterminate.

Good morning folks
frow.gif

another weekend gone and just was not enough
of it. I seen a pair of mules I'd like to get but
would need to rehome a gelding here that just
isn't going to work for the grandkids...... I hate
selling horses.

We are also thinking through the chickens and
what we want to do for next year.........feed
prices are going to get high since corn and
other grains didn't do so well this year.

Hope your day is a good one

CSB:
There is not enough time over the weekend.

About feed prices... I have been out of layer for about a week, and the ladies have all been eating the starter grow out & sweet potatoes, tomatoes.....

I can not believe how high the feed is getting! It is a good thing that I still have some produce coming out of the gardens for a bit longer. The prices are going up on the people food again too!

I'll finish my coffee and shut up now; got to get the boys out the door on time. Looks like I have a full day of baking, and picking, and a trip to the feed mill (in the car because the truck is still full of scrap lumber for projects).
