I hope everyone has a great day!! So far lock down has worked as Donald the Duck has NOT ventured into the neighboring property!! Then again, it could be because I was making bread and they have learned that I always feed them the heels of the bread! It's a good source of Omega-3 via the flax seed in the bread. I love tossing the bread to the ducks and watching them "catch" it while the chickens and guineas search the ground for the "missing" piece.

Oh yeah...fun fun times at the Meadows!! Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

Been too busy to check in for a couple days, and haven't read all the posts I missed yet.

We're on Fall Break, which means I am trying to alternate having a bit of relaxation with all the work I need to do. I'll get some of both in before I go back on Monday.

My nest boxes are about 12" off the floor so I doubt it's height. not sure unless they just need a bit of time, My pullets always have older girls to watch so they tend to follow what they do. I do remember when I only had one hen laying some years back and used golf balls in the nest, it took awhile but she finally got the message, but she was a throw away so she was use to living in the woods on her own and nesting there, Hopefully your girl will get the idea soon. very pretty nest boxes so clean too. do your nest boxes have a top? you might try laying something over top to see if that may get their attention for a nice quiet place to lay an egg. Mine like to lay in dark quiet nest boxes. maybe a piece of card board or an old towel to lay across the top just to see if it makes any difference.

emarketwhiz This is what I did with one hen. I completely covered that area where she had been laying with a metal bucket... I also swept the shavings from around it and showed the hen her nest with egg. I left it covered like that for 3 days and it worked for me. If all else fails try that. It is so frustrating sometimes trying to communicate to them especially when they first start to lay. good luck Gloria Jean

hello folks. got a question for my peeps down on the east side of the state. I'm going to be down in the morehead city area at the end of the month and want to stop somewhere and purchase several blueberry plants.(10-20) i've looked online, but can only find a few farms. dan finch, and cashwell. finch is near wilson, and cashwell is in garland. anybody know of other farms down that way. i drive hwy 70 up to raleigh normally, don't mind a little out of the way, but would love to find a place as close as possible. maybe i'll pick up a chicken or too as well!!
