they could have MS or MG Or just about anything starting up. Are they hatchery and what kind of hens are they? What kind of feed do they get? Gloria Jean

NH, I wouldn't worry to much yet on the hens. some birds you don't really see that they are molting. and its getting to that time off year that without an added light for longer "daylight" most will quite laying until spring. Its natural for them, and gives their bodies time to rest for the nest years laying. Even the roos slow down on their mating and might even stop altogether, thus don't need to keep the other contenders away, so he can follow you more. If you want you can try giving them vitamins or cooked eggs to help with feather regrow.

Okay, since Hubby is out of town on a hunting trip, I'm going to tell myself happy birthday, just so you guys can also tell me happy birthday. It's like rolling a snowball downhill.

Then you can wonder if it's really my birthday or not.

<sigh> I think I need some sage advice from my BYC'ers. I have some 2 year old hens that have stopped laying. At first I thought it was because they were all going to molt, but only 1 is molting and her feathers are already growing back in. Their combs are pink, albeit pale, which I know is a sign of sickness. Could anyone think of anything that might be up? Even my rooster (who is acting really "strange - he has been following me and DD#1 around and just isn't acting "right" if that makes sense) has a red comb, but it's not its usual deep red. I (well Beth really) wormed them late Spring...would they need a repeat so soon already? Any thoughts/suggestions/etc...would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the new folks!!

Meg - you'd better stay around!! I need someone to talk sheep and turkeys with!!

On a side note: I made my first batch of raw sheep's cream cheese...DH told me to salt it, and I think I salted it WAAAAYYYY too much!! Oh well, he'll eat it...hopefully!!

I just ordered (for my birthday) some cheese making supplies so I should be making some hard raw cheeses here in the very near future!!
Just because they aren't laying and their combs aren't bright red doesn't necessarily mean they are sick, Are they off their feed? any other signs like runny poo or scratching? Mites and or lice can make them anemic which would cause pale combs, and 2 yr old hens aren't going to lay as prolific as yr olds. Post all symptoms. Even our Muscovy hens have paler skin now since laying season is over our drakes too.
