Hi everyone!

The kids and chicks, and gardens, and the greenhouse have been keeping me soooo... busy.
I don't know if i will ever catch up with all of you.

I have a habit of taking in stray birds, and the newest one is a cooper Maran.
Do I need to breed him with Cooper (black)?
... or can I cross him with Cuckoo Maran pullets???
I have not had this breed before, and I'm sure that many on here have.

Good morning, Everyone!

I'm late this morning. I realized last night that I needed to do something at work before my first lab, so was here by 6:30.

Turkey test in two days. We have to get them locked up today after we both get home from work, as Chris leaves for another business trip Tuesday AM. They're gonna hate being locked up for a couple days. But we'll know soon, soon, soon. The waiting has been hard. Either way, I should be able to restock some things this fall. And, if I'm going to do fall brooding, I figure I might get a few more pullets, just to have POL birds to take to auction in the spring. Ummm...if anyone else is looking to order chicks, we could potentially put a joint order in. I'm doing Ideal for sure, and I'll see after that. I want some of my birds to be from show lines, but many are just for eggs, so no matter.

Soaring Chicks, I'd also be interested in getting some Blue JGs when you have chicks or eggs available after your NPIP testing. JGs are on my want list, and I'd love blues!

I've got a peep-a-palooza going on over here!
I've got 10 chicks hatched out so far and see atleast 7 more pips! I love my new bator. Taking some wise advice from a friend. I stopped trying to moniter everything. I didn't check temps, as the bator was preset to 99.5. And I filled the water troughs as stated on day 18. And walked away! BEST HATCH I've EVER HAD! I'm using the brinsea 20, but 24 eggs in so I'm almost at a 50% hatch :yiipchick
Can you tell I'm excited!

Hollow- I'm praying the testing goes well I know this has been hard for you and I admire how strong you are! wish you were a tad closer as I've got chicks everywhere(bator plus 2 broodies on 20 eggs due in 2 weeks) I'd let you “steal”.




So… so far I have 2 easter eggers, 4-5 buff orps, 2 JG/austalorp Xs, 1 bantam orp black/white X, and 2 english blue orp/brahma Xs(they look like giant blue fluff balls with thin foot feathers)

You ladies are awesome.

I think we'll be okay. They are locked into the old chickenhouse, not a big run. The inspector seemed willing to grab birds last time, and he'll only have to grab two, so we should be good. I can always catch Bob up and restrain him, mostly because he's used to it. The rest the inspector can grab.

Two more days. I wish this was over.

If the turkeys come up positive, we'll have to destroy them. If they are negative, they may remove quarantine now, since they've tested negative twice. Or they may require another test in another month before they lift quarantine. It depends on the pathologist. Since we had positive birds on the property still during the first test, they could disregard it and require two consecutive tests with no positive birds on the property. Rather, no positive poultry, because this stuff can be carried by wild birds.

Either way, I'll have results by the end of the week and will have a timeline and a plan.

We went to dinner tonight to celebrate hubby's birthday. It's tomorrow, but he'll be on his business trip. A neighbor called to see if we'd left the driveway gate open on purpose.

She was kind enough to get the dogs shut into the empty sheep pasture while we headed home to see what was up. The pup, Reilly, had gone as far as the road, and Jake halfway down the driveway! Murphy, the old man, had stayed in the yard as he's supposed to. At least they had all stayed in to start with...for at least an hour...before they heard her dogs barking across the street and decided to investigate. We are sooooooo lucky. Our Boys are not car smart At. All. Reilly in particular would not survive playing in the street. He'd either be hit or picked up. He'd get in someone's car if the asked him to. He loves to ride. We are all just so lucky!
