Congrats on your new babies! Mine are 2 weeks old ... just another 10 weeks before I can introduce them to the rest of the flock ... *sigh* I wonder how long I can keep them in the coop in the house before my DH makes me move them out?

One, the questionable Ancona or exchequer leghorn has become VERY curious/friendly and LOVES to peck ... peck peck peck. She pecks everything, even the walls and esp if I "drizzle" water drops on the side. Drives her NUTS! peck peck peck peck

Yay!!!!!!!!
Finally a sunny day. The 2 weekers and 5 weekers are out while I clean box and biddie coop. All my other girls and teenagers are out daily, but seeing the smaller ones just get them so curious. I almost think my older buff may try and adopt the 6 buff 5 weekers I have, Or at least let them follow her... maybe the transsition for the 5 weekers will be easier this time. who knows.. Well back out for now....

Everyone enjoy the day. Tomorrow, lots of cooking, food and left overs for my chickens, cats and dogs. Poor Shorty may get some but most of it is not good for him or he hates anyway........

For real?? Maybe I should take them out and see what happens? How do you introduce them? This is my first time, I read that you should mix them until the biddies are 12 weeks old??

Olivia getting her leg warmers :) SO CUTE
(Partridge Cochin)
PS: The brown/gold/amber under her bum is my bracelet, not poo ;)

Carrie, the most inquisitive, friendliest, and curious (either Ancona or Exchequer Leghorn).. any thoughts?
She always greets me by jumping on the waterer and "fluttering" to the top of the coop for me to pick her up. She is beyond friendly!

I rolled the grow out cage and open the door by the barn, the 5 weekers go to the open end or the corral. I then after I make sure they are ok, I left the 2 weekers out by the back porch. So they are seperated a bit. Then after that I release the older girls and teenagers together. So I have 3 groups in different parts of the yards. No one really goes towards the porch due to the concrete, so the 2 weekers are ok and almost left alone to roam and explore the sand, grass and rocks. (The 5 weekers have only discovered a tiny part of the porperty, but each day explore a little more, while the teenagers and old ones know it, the next one and forest real well.) The teenagers end up visiting the barn and corral area but are too busy to really notice the 5 weekers or just peck alone with them. Finally the older girls move over to that area and as long as the 5 weekers are not eating where the big girls are, all is good.. In a way, they are getting use to each other. At the end of the day, The 2 weeker were returned to their box when it started getting colder, the teenagers and big girls will return to their coops at dusk and I have already made sure the 5 weekers are back to their coop an hour or so before that.. Usually by letting them see their feeder which during this time was out of site...

Lots of fun watching them all while I do other stuff outside.
Fun thing for today was our biggest 5 weeker running to an RIR, chest bumping her then running like heck . The little one did this a coulple of times before the RIR pecked her back. Still, the little guy was not afraid of her. Also the Older buff let the little buffs follow her as long as they did not try to eat where she was. another fun thing to watch.

So really I have not mixed them in a coop yet. That will happen as they get big enough. 12 to 16 weeks for me. Some do it earlier and other like me wait til they are the same size or can handle it...

Good Morning all you Happy People, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Once I top off all the feeders this morning, I'll be heading to Georgia for turkey with the family. But I'll be back tonight. Hubby will stay and go deer hunting for a couple days.

We found furniture yesterday (we've been hunting off and on for a year, so this is actually a big accomplishment!), and we'll have them deliver it next moth after the semester is over. Lots of rearranging to do before then, too. Our current set must be moved to the guest room, and that furniture moved out. But Step 1 is complete. Find the stuff!

Gotta go feed chickies and hit the road. Enjoy the day!
