North Dakotans UNITE!

good move ssgreer1. Sittin indoors watching it snow and blow. The chickens got fed indoors today- something I rarely do but with 8+ inches and still coming down and blowing around, it doesnt pay to start shoveling yet

I always wanted chickens & a big garden but kinda hard to do in ND especially since we lived in town. Don't miss that cold. That feeling of cold burning you to the core is something I will never forget!

I'm playing hookey from work... I work night shift and don't want the roads to close while I'm there. Who would take care of my poultry?

Urg. I can't get the quotes to work.

Western edge. - I will keep that in mind. I really want a few, just set some eggs in the incubator today and have another set of fun birds for the husband on their way. Will you be at the auction in new Salem? A friend was just telling me about it. I am planning to go see what is all there.

Frosty - we get a snow day tomorrow. Right now I am buried in waist to 5 foot drifts. I had to dig my way in to check on the chickens a bit ago!

Plan on attending New Salem. I may not have that pen together anymore by then but if I do I was thinking of consigning some hatching eggs. My pullets have started to lay and I must get them penned. Not enough pens for all my projects.
Shoveled 18 + inches of snow all day. It was blown into 3 foot drifts through my runs.

BOOO on the snow! Sometimes it seems it will never end there! Were you there for that horrible storm like the 1st weekend in May before last? We lost power for like a week. It was crazy! Stores had no food. Gas stations had no gas. It turned me into a bit of a prepper. Can't get caught without food with 4 kids! Just think "Spring. Spring"

Yup. I was right with ya. I shoveled snow for the chickens too.

What breeds might you bring with you to New Salem?
I may still have the Heritage RIRs but ive found not much interest in them in the past. Other wise I have only my " project in the works " and any extra hatching eggs at that time would be a rhodebar x rhode island red or a legbar x brown leghorn. The rhodebars make some real nice pullets and the legbar crosses are a blue egglayer and both early and excellent layers. Again, dont think there would be much interest in these either.
In about two more generations ( I hope ) I will have developed my own strain of these auto sexing breeds. Not to concerned about the "standard", I am breeding for egg laying and auto sexing ability but this is were I start boring most people so...
New Salem has a large variety of alternative livestock and a large consignment of fowl with some quality birds, but not all. Hope I can make it.
