Is this an auction or a swap? I'm surprised it isn't advertised on Bisman, they usually are...

How is everyone holding up? We have been in full swing with calving for the past month. We had a set of twins that momma couldnt feed both, so Im now the proud momma of Dinky the midget. He is the cutest thing ever. LOL I also got most of my chicks for this year already. I swore I was gonna wait until May, but dang if TSC didnt give me a good deal on red pullets one day.
So speaking of chicks I had the weirdest thing happen to one of the Cornish Rock chicks. I was doing the morning inspection and noticed that one of them was way bloated. At first I thought it was fluid, but actually it was air.. Like someone stuck an air hose underneath the skin and blew him up. I can shine a light and see through him... Anyways after reading and researching I came to the conclusion that he had an impacted crop(which was huge) and the food was souring causing toxic gas. So I treated him with baking soda water for 2 days and massaged his crop. He is better and eating and the crop seems to be working. Most of the air has gone away, but there is still some. My question is should I use a needle and syringe and remove the rest? What are some of your thoughts and has this ever happened to any of you?

Hi North Dakota Chicken lover here. I am in Minot anyone else? I am looking for layers well almost always. And I have been inspected for a commercially egg licensed if anyone has any questions.
Welcome. I am an 75 miles north west of Minot and regularly come to 'town' for supplies. I am very interested in learning about becoming commercially licensed to sell eggs. I'd like to do farmers markets, and maybe the small restaurant in town. Currently I sell to individuals one on one. Are you licensed in ND? Can you give me info on how you got this license, people to call, ect.

Finally some decent weather! Yay! I put my 10 week old silkies in their hen house for a trial run tonight. my hubby built the house in his shop and is going to install it in the yard tomorrow, so I thought I'd put them out there tonight while it's still indoors.

Is anyone here near Bismarck? I have 7 silkies and I'm pretty sure 5 of them are roosters. If anyone wants a silkie roo, Let me know. Maybe we could barter or something.

I'm also interested in catching feral pigeons for dog training, if you have old grain bins that are infested with pigeons, I'd take some off your hands....

Yay spring!

Hi, ya'll! I'm in Ross, ND, halfway between Williston and Minot, on Hwy 2. I've just gotten into chickens, and the bug has bitten bad! I have 13 pullets and 2 cockerels, will be 8 weeks old this Friday... Rhode Island Reds, Black Australorps, White Jersey Giants hens... cockerels are Rhode Island Red, and Gold-Laced Wyandotte (he was a freebie from the hatchery). I also have 7 chicks, will be 4 weeks old this Friday, Dark Cornish (5 pullets), White Jersey Giant (1 pullet), and Black Australorp (1 pullet, 1 cockerel), Gold-Laced Crested Polish (1 pullet, and another freebie)... I think you can figure I'll be breeding them. I've got 5 Gold-Laced Wyandottes (female chicks) coming in July, too. Then I've got 8 Cornish X Rock 4-week old cockerels for the freezer, and 10 more coming in July. AND 52 eggs in the 'bator... Lavender Orpingtons, Double-Barred Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons, Black Copper Marans, and Ameraucanas. That's just the chickens!

Ducks? Six Rouens, and 4 Jumbo Pekins (3 @ 8 weeks, 7 @ 7 weeks), along with 2 more Jumbo Pekins ducklings arriving the end of June.

Think I got it bad? LOL!

LOL! Those are coming next year... hubby wants them, but says wait, until we get everything else situated. I'm waiting on my 8x12 Utility Shed that I ordered, to be delivered in 14 days, for the chicken house, and building the run attached to it, divided, for the chickens and ducks to have their own runs. Then, we'll move on from there.

Up here in the Minot area, we got almost 1.25" between Sunday and Monday. Are you guys dry down there? I saw something on the news that said ND needed more rain for crops and filling stock ponds. Where we are we are way ahead on moisture for the year so that left me a bit confused. Just south of Minot at the research station the last rains pushed the total up enough that there is now a new record for precipitation in a year... and the year isn't over yet.

3.10 inches in 2 days? Wow!
