North Dakotans UNITE!

Nice to see more activity on this north dakota form. Chickens need about 14 hours of light so adding light to your coop helps along with a good egg layer ration. Still, on the cold snaps my hen almost quit. Some people leave like a forty watt light on 24/7 to keep their hens laying all year round. Lot of good info in these fourms, just type a key word into search.

Bisman Online "other livestock" is one to check out.
A rosecomb variety such as a wyndott or dominique or many other rose comb chickens would be good to consider. In the straight comb varieties such as the rhode island red or the leghorn, the hen dont suffer much but if you are to keep straight comb roos, it is hard to keep them from getting frost bitten combs.
Why does that name sound so familiar to me?

Do any of you know anyone with fertile eggs they would be willing to unload? The local headstart program is planning to hatch some eggs in March. I am donating a bunch and wondering if I will have enough since I only have 8 hens that are laying and the rooster isnt doing his job with all of them..... so I was going to search out some more.

Hi Western Edge,

Unfortunately I am in an apartment right now that has an absolutely no pet policy... so I am mostly looking for someone who would sell me eggs until I can get to a place where I can buy and care for my own egg-layers :)

I will try the contacts you gave me to find some people who own chickens and if they would let me buy eggs from them.

Are you within any close distance to Minot and willing to sell some eggs? You can contact me at [email protected] if you are and don't want to post your location online.

Thanks again for your help!

I'm about 13 miles east of Minot and work in town...

I love easter egg chickens!! That is definitely one of the breeds I want when I stop renting apartments with no-pet policies!
I have a few Easter Eggers, and a few genuine Ameracauna from John Blehm. I put in another order with him this year, just waiting to hear if I was too late. I didn't get an order confirmation yet and his site is showing sold out on the varieties that I asked for :(

Hi All!
Yay! A ND Thread!

I'm new here and need some help. I tried mail order chicks and only one survived the shipping

. I would like to find little chicky a friend or two locally so I don't have to risk shipping more right now. Anyone out there who can help me out? I will of course pay for them, and even pick them up. I'm in Bismarck.

Thanks!
Alison

Awesome that you have some Easter Eggers! What color eggs do yours lay?
Bummer, I hope you get the chicks you asked for! Good luck!

Some of the Ameracauna are pretty close to blue, the EEs are pretty much green, one that I hatched here I think was a cross between an EE and a Cuckoo Marans, and hers are the most disgusting olivish/grayish... They make me laugh every time I find one!
