Added these 19 Coturnix eggs to the bator today. I have gone certifiably insane! That makes 142 eggs for thr HAL in addition to the 30ish that are due this weekend.

Oh, and by the way, if you can find an easy on/easy off in a size 6.5, I'll totally buy them.

I talked to the owner of the Pizza Factory today and the room isn't available at 2 on the 19th. He said we could have it at noon but needs a head count.  Can everyone who plans on coming let me know and how many?  I'd appreciate it, thanks :)
I have plans to help clean up at my church from 9am to 11 or 12? and then I would want to shower and then it takes me 1hr to drive to CDA. Count me out this time... no worries.

If you need any jumbo Coturnix eggs, let me know. I'm up to my eyeballs in eggs from them because I have no more room to set eggs.

So... What do you do with quail? I know some people train their tracking dogs w/them... but what otherwise?

Put my eggs in a week ago today, woke this morning to a tripped outlet and 65 degrees in my hovabator....I got the temp back up and read that I shouldn't panic...if it wasn't long prolly no need for alarm. It's my 1st time and I would be happy if 6 of the 13 hatch, but 13 would be better...ha a bakers dozen...I'll have to name em after donuts!
that is clever... and funny.. I have no imagination when it comes to naming my animals. I always feel like I have to know their personality before i can name them and then that doesn't help me... oh well, i have too many to name.

Thelma and Louise... Thank you Ty. When I told Mark about your chicken loss, he asked if you wanted Thelma & Louse back. I said, I didn't even think to ask her.... So I am asking you now... would you like them back?

This is my first time with quail. I guess these are too small to eat, so we will just use the eggs. They are supposed to be really rich and creamy. Better boiled than chicken eggs. Don't know, so i will let you know. It's my daughter's thing, she is a chef.

We have jumbo coturnix quail. 2 birds make a great dinner for 4. Half a bird per person.
As for eggs, the eggs are a lot better than chicken eggs for some people. My father in law is allergic to egg whites (or yolks, I can't remember), but I saw online that quail eggs could be used instead and he wouldn't have issues. Turned out to be true. And now my husband just got told he has the same intestinal issue with gluten and eggs.... so we'll be eating lots of quail eggs now.

Eggs and meat :) They only take 6-8 weeks to mature, and incubation only takes 18 days. So fairly quick turn around. In my experience they start laying or are ready for butcher at around 8 weeks.
We do have a lab, but she's a natural bird dog.

Just lost my Red Dorking Cockerel... He was in the bachelor pad but there's a bully in there... poop... grr... I may end up eating the bully for dinner even though I was planning on breeding him. He has great form. He's a silkie dorking cross. I have a pullet that is of the same variety and i have gotten some interest from people that were wanting some chicks... but I may just flush that line.... Guess I'll calm down first before making any decisions.
