Northern California Meet Up/Chicken Swap - Sunday October 10th!

Quote:
Hi Stephanie,

Sorry that I flaked out today, but I didn't have any desire to buy, sell or trade (and drive 3+ hours on a Sunday)...my three hens are enough chickening for me right now.

I am planting garlic in two weeks (two new varieties this year for a total of seven), I would like to enter my bulbs next year. That was really fun last year when we went, let's do it again next year in 2011.

Post up those Chickenstock pics when you can,

Hugh

We saw that bag during cleanup. Cheryl has it. We were going to look at the pics to see whose it was, but realized you wouldn't be in your own pics.

A huge thank you to Cheryl for opening her home to us. The coop(s) were fantastic! I loved the pics of each individual bird with their names and breeds. Awesome!

It's always great meeting all those chicken peeps.

Putting names to faces makes this online place a little less surreal. The food was amazing, and the door prizes were phenomenal. I won a dozen Barnevelder hatching eggs for spring from tls_ranch. WooHoo!!

I promised myself I wouldn't come home with any more chickens. Hatching eggs don't count, do they??

Hugh, I didn't need anymore chickens either. That's no excuse! There were rumblings about going to the Stockton Poultry Show next year, so start thinking about it now.

eta - I forgot my camera today, so I will have to rely on others to post their pics.

Hahaha Steffanie, I'm pretty sure "hatching eggs" don't count yet!

Thanks for letting me know about the camera! I really loved the pictures with the chickens names and breeds also. What a great idea. I just loved Cheryl's coops!

A couple of us were talking about meeting up again in January at the Stockton poultry show, so don't anybody fret, if you missed today there WILL be another event!

BTW, weren't those booze filled (

ETA: I can't wait to hatch those Olive Eggers for PetRock next spring! If only it were closer...

Thank you Cheryl for the door prizes. Please keep us updated about your chicken items that you have created.

And, maybe many of us will meet up at the January show in Stockton!

Hugh, what's the growing schedule for garlic again? Is it a biennial? Do you have to let it grow both years to harvest? I guess it makes sense that you plant the bulbs in the fall. (Most bulbs get planted in the fall. )

I took a few pictures in between chatting (substitute the word "eating" here if you were there).

Here is Cheryl and Larry's lovely home:

Here is the oh-so-wonderful Omelet Ranch:

Here is a picture of some of the great kids we met today. They were sharing the names of their chickens and how they got their names. Examples "Brownie got her name because she is brown" and "MissPeepsALot got her name because she always peeps a lot."

Here are pictures of the door prize give-away: (Just an observation. There was a big box of shoes in the brooder room but only Larry seemed to know about it.)

Deciding which prize to take was hard because there were so many!

Sorry I didn't take more pics but the chat (food) was just too good!
