Animal Place has taken in the birds. There were 140 roosters, hens and chicks total. Most are bantam-sized with a few large roosters.
The birds are available for adoption. Our focus is on the northern California region, but if anyone is interested in adopting roosters as companions and are out of state, we will transport.
There are also five mother hens with chicks, all of undetermined sex. We'd love to place the families together, but only in regions that will accept roosters.
If folks are interested in adopting any of these birds, they can email [email protected]. The birds are in good health, nice weights.
Last minute I had some meetings drop off so I went out there. I worked with the team to try to answer questions and find some ways to rehome the birds. We had some people lined up as a first wave to find homes, but unfortunately they fell through. The Animal Planet team has been working to find more peeps to take the chickens and I just found out today that Animal Place did some really amazing work! We'd definitely like to find local homes for the birds, but expect it will be a challenge to rehome so many roosters as companion animals. This being the case I believe Animal Place will be willing to ship the birds to good homes.
