Norwegian Jaerhon

Pics
It's interesting that Jaers were not originally imported by GreenFire Farms. They are currently working on several other breeds from the region - the Olandsk Dwarfs are super cute little guys

I am interested in Greenfires Hedemora also, pics show some similarities to the Icelandic and the Jaerhon. Size also. I would like to have groups of each side by side to raise out and compare. I am going to try to do just that.

Not til March at the earliest, maybe not til April, shipping chicks to this area that time of year can be dicey, late winter storms. Too expensive chicks to expose them to that .

What about hatching eggs? Do you have a way of incubating them? I guess I always prefer hatching eggs because the worst case scenario would be they won't hatch. I have had chicks die in shipment before because of a mix up with USPS awful...

Yes, I have incubators, but Greenfire isnot selling eggs on these, and I did have one bad experience shipping hatching eggs early, so the same with them, I will wait. Right now I dont know of any other source for the Hedemora then Greenfire.

I lost one of my adult Jaer hens tonight.

Came home and found her crumpled on the coop floor under the nest boxes. Maybe she hit the wall and snapped her neck??

Whatever happened, it really stinks. Now I've got 2 hens and 1 roo, and 5 cockerals and 4 pullet chicks left. Always more boys.

Let's hope no more losses, at least until I get the bators loaded next year.
