I am very happy to announce that I now have a handsome dark Jaer rooster thanks to discoveregg. I will have fertile eggs in a few weeks when he matures. He is a sweety. I can't wait to hear him crow.
I have two other roosters, a black with copper back F3 olive egger and a Columbian Plymouth Rock Bantam, so it should be easy to tell his crow from the other two. I think his crow should be in between them in pitch. I am looking forward to hatching eggs this spring. I will be interested to see how much variation there will be in the chicks.

I am in northeast Wisconsin. My birds went thru one winter already (under their previous owner). I wonder too about that big comb, but my roo doesn't seem to have had frozen tips. I'll have firsthand experience soon enough though!
