Norwegian Jaerhon

Merry Christmas All! I hope mine don't get frost bite, I have sheet metal covering two sides of the roost area and a hill covering the other to keep the wind off of them. I've heard cold wind is what gets most rooster's comb's I've had no problems yet

... I'm sorry Discoveregg your roo got some frost bite, hope he gets to feeling better soon! All my roosters are crowing now. I haven't seen any breed hens yet.

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about with these birds and frostbite. I've been through 2 winters with them and no trouble.

I got mine from Sandhill. There were 3 flames, 3 regulars and this flame J frizzle.
Unfortunately she was among 9 birds the neighbor's dog pack killed on a spree through my coop.

This guy started crowing at 5 weeks.

I sold the roosters and all but 2 pullets to a friend but I really like the hens I have left. I'm limited on space so have to be judicious about which breeds I have roosters of.

I'll try to get some pics of my hens now.

I have never seen anything about "frizzle" when I was translating Norwegian into English. If they produced a frizzle they must have been cross breeding with other breeds... I believe frizzle would be a serious fault in the light and dark variety but I can't speak for flames I don't know much about them. But if your just having them as pets and not breeding them as Jaers I guess is doesn't matter if they are naked, frizzled, or silkied. But I just hope we don't have people calling their birds Norwegian Jaerhons with a frizzles in their flock, such a new breed, no need for confusion...

Right, I'm not suggesting there should be a frizzle. My understanding is frizzles are the result of 1 parent having the frizzle gene(which is a result of crossing). I just was showing the picture of an apparent cross between a Flame and a frizzle something - possibly even generations back.

I admit she was pretty and neat to look at, I've at times thought about getting some type of frizzle or something I just have to control myself! I admit I'm a chicken addict... I do have a token white sikie hen in my black copper maran pen.

She would have only been for laying, not breeding. I have another frizzle layer that I believe is crossed with delaware, she lays nice eggs also goes broody and has raised some of my Penedesencas. They all have a purpose.
