Just out of curiousity I did some checking on the requirements for a new breed to be recognized by the APA. I can see why many breeds are not recognized due to the number of birds necessary at the show to qualify. However,we think it is a great breed and we want it to grow in numbers and number of breeders. I think recognition by the APA would be good for the breed. I am not into showing but I would do it for the breed. When I start a new project I always remind myself that you only have to do one step at a time. So the main thing we have to work on now is: at least 5 people to breed and raise Jaers for 5 years. That 's not hard as we already want to breed and raise Jaers. We also need to develop an American Standard of Perfection based on the one we already have from Norway then our Jaers will continue to look like Jaers and not wander off into something different. The rules from the APA are listed at the bottom of this link http://www.apa-abayouthpoultryclub.org/Edu_Material/Adding_Breeds_Varieties_to_Standards.pdf

another observation i made last year was as they mature they will be smaller chicks than others breeds. normally they hatch out same size chicks as other breeds with the same size egg but dont get as large and grow in size as other standard breeds.
