my dutch bantam roos can (usually) fly up and land on my second story deck. Sometimes they don't make it and turn their flight into an awkward glide the length of the yard.
One regularly flies up and lands on my husbands shoulder to be toted around the yard while he crows like crazy. Apparently my husband is the tallest perch around. I got in trouble for feeding him grapes while he was up there after my husband felt the grape goo oozing down through is hair.
I was always told that chickens can only fly about 9 ft in the air that was until my little japanese hen got spooked and flew to the roof of our second story house from the ground :|
Luckily she came down right away but it blew me away when she did that.
Our Red OE bantam hen (Scooter) and the Roo's are now 14 weeks old and still no bigger than robins!
She has allways been very sweet and social-- but since adding the new chickens, not as much any more ( Waaaaah!)
Your gal is SOO gorgeous! She looks almost like a Mottled Black D'Uccle, but without the feathery feet...could she be a cross??? Maybe with a Spangled OE???
If my fat, lazy, 10lb rooster can clear a 5 foot tall fence, and the equally lazy hens who steal cat foot can jump on the roof of the house, I can imagine your little cutie taking flight! That's such a pretty coloring!
