Like the subject header says; I'm not concerned but just curious. My two cockerels (18 weeks old come Thursday 3/12), who live in a seperate area from the pullets and the hens are always the first to go to roost? Never had roosters/cockerels before and was just wondering if that was a norm for cockerels/roosters?

I don’t know if it’s a male thing, but many people have chickens that go to bed at very different times. Some people think certain ones want the good spot on the roost. Some, I believe, is due to instinct telling them to get themselves put up before predators come.
It’s interesting since yours are separated.
Maybe they just don’t have anyone to look after, so, being bachelors, they just figure they’ll do it their way. Lol.

I have two coops and 39 chickens. I have two roosters, one of which "goes to bed early" and one that does not. I have a couple of hens that go to bed early and one girl who is always last to enter to the run and finally the coop. Chickens are just individuals and have their own habits it seems. My Leghorns and Barred Rocks are first on the roosts. My Buff Orpingtons are the last and wander around the run, pecking at the food and such before entering the coop when even I can't see anymore it's so dark! ;)
