Not a good day... need advice please

Well as you know, I hatched 2 emus a few weeks ago. This morning I found one of them dead... apart from being devastated, I now end up with only one emu. What you suggest to keep him happy? For the next few days I'll keep him close, but it will need a friend sooner or later. I have laying hens but I'm afraid is to young for them. I will incubate more eggs next year but any advice of what to do since then would be very appreciated.

Yes, I have an emu that hatched 12 days before the second one, so he was raised with a goose. At three months old they are still very good friends. If you can locate a couple of goslings that are around the same age as your emu, he may accept them as friends.
