Maybe Speckle is just a little smarter than Red Rooster. If it's as hot there as it is here, I can't blame her for stopping where the shade ends.My avatar pic . . .
I decided to go check the mailbox. As usual, my Speckle Dog went right along with me, to make sure she didn't miss anything important. She walked just as far as the shade reached, and lay down to watch me go. Red Rooster followed me all the way to the mailbox, to ensure I wasn't run over by a Mack truck or anything. Red earned his place on this forum, LOL!!
It was about 95 today, supposed to be 97 tomorrow. Alright if you can stay in the shade, but that sun burns my shoulders right through my T-shirt! We've got a whole lot of hot to look forward to for the next 3 months. There are a lot of things I'm glad I don't have to do anymore - roofing, construction, logging, maintenance on factory machinery, or even automotive work. Those are all too hot!Maybe Speckle is just a little smarter than Red Rooster. If it's as hot there as it is here, I can't blame her for stopping where the shade ends.
I hear you, it's even hard to breathe in weather like that! Take it easy and drink plenty of fluids is the best advice! It was about 95 today, supposed to be 97 tomorrow. Welcome. Thank you for all of the rescues you and your wife do.I grew up with chickens, then got away from all farm life when I joined the Navy at age 19. After a few decades, I am making chickens part of my retirement.
How many chickens? Well, I started with 5 ducks and a guinea fowl, all "inherited" when they were abandoned by previous owners. Then, I hatched 7 more ducks, and the guinea fowl fell victim to predators. I ordered 10 guinea from a hatchery, picked up 10 banties from a local farm supply, then ordered 15 Australorps from the hatchery. I've lost a few birds, but there are 40 healthy birds wandering the property from sunup to sundown.
I'm enjoying the drama and comedy of raising the fowl. I didn't mention, we have an Australian Shepard, 3 goats that were abandoned, and my wife is the local cat lady who adopts every stray cat to come along. There are also cattle on two adjoining properties, and horses on another adjacent property. Both the drama and the comedy can get pretty intense.
I discovered BYC on Youtube. Joining seemed like the thing to do after watching a bunch of videos.
