Not A Poll Just Curious

🤦‍♀️ what a question!

Let me just say, I am hopeless when it comes down to having long term goals, pure breeds, one breed flocks. In the moment, I have what I call my Sussex flock, but about a third are odd mutts, and three Marans.
Then my other flock was meant to be anything that didn't fit in the Sussex flock, so mostly mutts, a couple of Orpingtons, and one RIR.

What I would like to have, is the Sussex flock, and a Marans flock, and less of the mutts, but the trouble is I just love setting barnyard mix eggs, and seeing what I get out of them, and then I love the birds to much so I have to keep them!

I have a mixed variety. I free-range my pullets and hens, but keep my breeding cockerels/roosters together in the bachelor barn that has two attached but enclosed runs. When I get ready to hatch, I put select hens with a specific chosen rooster in the love shack (enclosed coop and run) for a few days, then return them to their respective flocks, before collecting the eggs.

I have all Orpingrons. Number one, I like the idea of the looks of having a flock of all one breed, just different colors, and number two, then I don't have to worry about identification. I also wanted to go with a breed that was dual purpose and had a good disposition overall. Orpingtons are the best in my opinion!

Do you enjoy/have a mixed flock of different breeds or do you keep one breed? Me, I like to have at the most 2 breeds keeping them segregated and rotating free range. At this time I have Blk Aus but the pull of getting back to some RIRs , my all time favorite is really gnawing at me.
Why keep them seperated? Is your plan to breed all year round for shows or to sell offspring chick(en)s?
You only need to separate them from a month prior to collecting the hatching eggs till you gathered enough eggs for the incubator or a broody.

I started with one breed (Dutch) in different colours. Now I have several bantam breeds because I was curious for other breeds, like to have eggs in winter too and like it to be able to recognise my individual hens.

Part of me likes singular breed. That part gets out voted by the other parts. :gig
Same. I suppose I could do a single breed if I had multiple colors, like WTBs, EEs, maybe several colors of silkies, but not a single breed and single color even BBS would likely be too limited for me.
