Not again 😣

Under a chicken. I have 2 super stubborn broody hens, and I didn't want more chickens... So I gave them duck eggs.

... I expected the broody hens to stop brooding, as they'd already been going for a couple of weeks. I am apparently actually getting ducklings.

I have 3 eggs that pipped while they were in the coop (I found them last night, when I was checking for viability 4 days before I they were going to hatch). They're (hens and eggs) all now in my bedroom with a humidifier going. We'll see how it goes.
Wait, you brought the hens and the eggs into your bedroom??!

Okay, I'm not the only crazy one out there. :lau

How's the adventure-some duo? Is sprit still molting? How's Dougie?
They're okay! Still molting. Still laying though, stubborn bird.... at the shells are looking good still
Dougie is doing well, back to herself. Doesn't miss her nest thankfully!
Also, I have ducklings hatching days before they should have... As best I can tell, my coop is just not humid enough... Despite that my entire area has been flooding for like 2 weeks...

Ngl, I'm a little worried about how this is going to go, but I'll post pics if it goes well.
Flooding for 2 weeks?? I hope you and your animals are all safe.
Fingers crossed all goes well!

You guys are not crazy my no means. I have hatched ducklings out in my dining room and living room and kept them in the house for 6 weeks until fully feathered. Why do people think that sounds crazy??? It sounds perfectly sane to me, lol.

We're all mad here...

Yes, they're in my bedroom. (I have one of those 8 foot long horse troughs as a brooder at the end of my bed). One duckling has hatched, last I looked. It was not dry or I would have taken pictures.

I would have kept the birds in the coop, but I needed to turn the bedding, and I cant do that if I set up the maternity ward... Plus, low humidity... So they're in my bedroom. I have the best husband. He didn't even blink twice at the hens.

I'm glad that they're doing well for the moment!

Yeah, we flooded a lot. Finally dried out enough to turn the coop today, and found out that the bottom of my coop (I have deep bedding) was not as dry as I had hoped, but otherwise we did really well. Nobody got hurt, and my ducks are having a blast playing in the various puddles I still have on my property.

Here, have a picture of a funnel cloud from a few days ago...

I used to breed lovebirds. I kept them in my bedroom. I learned to sleep with my arm over my head to attempt to block out their noise.

That is one heck of a picture! O_O

We're getting all of the rain now that we have not had for a few weeks. It rained yesterday, all night and is still raining where I am in Ohio. We needed rain badly but not rivers full all at once. The ducks are loving it though and think they now have a pond as part of the pen is flooded. lol

Well Dougie had a blip today
She started laying again a few days ago, and today laid a soft shell. I'm sure it was just a blip though

I'm glad I checked on them, I couldn't see Dougie from the door so called her, usually she comes running, but nothing, so I went to check. She was behind the coop having contractions

I kept a close eye until she laid it, which looked difficult. It burst as it was laid, but it's all there. I only had to offer her a calcium tablet, and she ate it. No need to force it down!
She had a cuddle and some kisses and seems to feel better now.

Remember that strange circular piece of shell that I found? Well, there was one attached to the egg where it burst open.
