Glad she's passed the egg. It might be genetic, and not something your doing wrong

It really feels like it is
First Dougie, then some bizarre egg blip, followed by a series of bad quality eggs and now Sprightly has troubles again

I haven't changed their diet or anything so I don't know if it is my fault
It just sucks having this repeat and each time I fear a different ending
I can't even say that I'm relieved because I'm just dreading tomorrow

@Miss Lydia should I be putting her back outside now? It's completely dark out and she's soaking for some reason from that bath

I could dry her up with towels before taking them to the coop, but should I just be keeping her in tonight?

I know I tagged miss Lydia but if anyone is online and has any thoughts on this, I'd appreciate opinions
She's mostly dried, via towel, so I'm thinking I can go put them back out in a second, they'll be confused but I expect Sprightly is more than ready for a good sleep

What are your temps? That is awesome that she laid her egg. it really takes them a while to get those soft shell ones out. I don't think it's you doing something wrong I think these ducks are just under so much stress to lay every day their bodies don't take it too well. You have to make sure she gets adequate calcium and a good feed. Not a whole lot more you can do. Hopefully she'll take a break soon and give her body a chance to recoup.

Currently 8 degrees C, so not very cold
Plus they have hay in their nest so she should be okay I think

Mostly dry now, just a hit damp here and there

With feed, tomorrow I'll pull a bag out and have a good look at all the nutritional information. If I can get some opinions on it, I may be able to find a better brand.
There isn't a lot of options here, I use a waterfowl feed and add niacin, worked well enough up until now. I'm not blaming the feed, but, if I can find anything else thats better quality I'd happily make the switch

I have found that our usual oyster shells aren't as good, there's some pretty big chunks in there.
I added a different kind, smaller flakes, today. Maybe that will make a difference, they may prefer them

How many times did you do the 1 ml calcium ?
For dasher I did 2 times a day it straightened things out quickly

I don't use the liquid calcium, but the powdered version I used once earlier when I first suspected Sprightly was having shell issues, then hours later I found her having troubles with this egg and gave her a second dose

Its their bed time now so I'm hoping like crazy she doesn't lay a second egg tonight.
She shouldn't, but I can't rule anything out with these two

I'm planning on giving her 0.5 tsp twice daily until she's back to normal

I was going to be doing this anyway because this morning I found a very brittle powdery shell and my gut instinct is that it was Sprightly's. Not long ago she laid several like this, so I was switching oyster shells for better ones and giving her extra calcium-- and on the same day this happens

At least I can be sure that it is her who isn't laying properly at the moment
