So..I lost my 10 month old New Hampshire Red on presidents day of this year..Broke my heart. When she was around maybe 1-2 months old, she developed a lump on her tummy. The lump was watery and I assumed filled with fluids. She had no problems what so ever, she was perfectly fine until winter came.
She had started act like she was bound, and pooped out yellow. I have no idea if she even laid an egg. The other five had, they were on and off. I never thought of separating her either, which I should have. All of a sudden, her whole back end was covered in this scary musterdy yellow goop. I thought she was getting better, she was still eating and everything. Then her lump disappeared. I gave her a warm bath and cleaned all of the yellow off. I dried her well and put her back in the coop with the others. Her comb was also purplish and small. She seemed to be suffering, she didnt eat, all she did was sit in the corner away from the others all huddled up. The next morning I found my baby dead..

Was this egg peritonitis? Could this have been anything else? I don't know why all of a sudden she got rid of everything in winter, but was fine all before. I am just curious..I really would appreciate some suggestions on what it could have been.. :c

Egg peritonitis sounds like a good possibility. You might consider lookiing into what is involved in having your state vet do a necropsy, if you are in the states. Usually it is inexpensive or even free. If you happen to be in California, it is free. They do have different requirements for the condition of the bird when you bring her in, though. Unfortunately, you will probably lose another one sooner or later and be unsure why, so this way you would be prepared.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately her body is no longer with us so I won't be able to do anything of that sort...But thank you!
