Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Ok, she's on sulmet , and I bought some probiotics to boost her system. ( said it's for digestive health, so worth a try ) The stuff I really wanted was all out, it was a antibiotic, and good bacteria booster. Might check for it later this week. She hasn't lost too much weight, and is still eating. Even though her crop never empty, or full, she's still getting enough food. She's on garlic, ACV, vitamins, and sulmet. Hopefully she'll snap out of it.
Be very careful of the garlic and the Sulmet together.....garlic is a blood thinner and in some cases, Sulmet has been known to cause some bleeding because it is harsh. You'll probably be fine, but wanted to give you a heads up on this.

Well I really doubt that my 2 that died died of mareks...simply because I have 40 new chickens some ordered, some from the feed store, some hatched from another farm, and we've had no more deaths due to disease. Had lots go missing in the middle of the night, but no limping or other symptoms. ... so that's good I guess
Lot's go missing? Isn't that a problem?

Yea, you might as well leave her with the flock.

I may have one that's wasting. She was always most affected by the heat. And one of those hens , I think, made it worse by her having to hide all day. She's very weak. There's just nothing I can do for her. I picked her up and she's as light as a feather.

I put her in a small coop with a fan, gave her ice water, and made her French toast nice and mushy. She looks better. She has always been my "dunker" every summer. Melts in the heat. And these 2 hens were scaring her away from the water. They are gone to a wonderful home now. Fingers crossed.

Don't count your chickens yet Missnu01.....yeah bad one, lol, but true. Just because you aren't seeing it now means nothing. Were the new chicks vaccinated for Marek's? Were they put in the same building with your others? How many of the originals do you have left there?

One thing I have learned from having it here....trust nothing. I got 160 something new birds this year. All were vaccinated for Marek's except the 20 meatie birds. I haven't lost a single one to Marek's. None, zip, nadda. Not even a single meatie has got it and they have been exposed for sure. They are also way over due for graduation from camp Libby at 12 weeks of age. from what I've read, they are the perfect 'canary' to use for testing. their systems are geared so that everything happens fast, like their growth. Does that mean I no longer have Marek's here? Oh wouldn't that be wonderful? Of course, it isn't true, but what a great thought! Instead I think it's in remission right now. Still there, but not active....but it could be without a moments notice. Ever have a cold sore? If so, that means you have the herpes that causes them and will until you die. It's just how it is. Now you don't have a cold sore everyday though do you? Nope, they come and go, sometimes with years in between. Does it mean you never will again? No it doesn't, because it's there inside you. Same with the Marek's....it's in there.

I'm with Seminolewind with the question about them going missing? Ummm, could you explain?

She's eating, but I found several dreaded bright green poops. She seems content in front of her private fan.

Haunted, you're right, lays in remission, comes out in stress. Just like mY Faverolle, she never dealt well with the heat, and it must have started to waste her-while eating everyday.
