Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Thank you, she seems to be doing ok, she was outside several hours today, like about 8 hours. I think it did her good to be out with the girls. Her crop was almost full when I brought her in tonight. So she's tired, slept on and off tonight.

I'm glad they worked it took me forever to get one of her walking. My timing was way off.

She's actually taking like 4-5 steps on fully extended legs today. But,she's lost .5 lb. she won't eat yogurt anymore, or strawberries, or her ff or dry food.shes out foraging all day but when she came in tonite, her crop was almost empty. So she's not eating much while out there. The vit b and calcium is in her water, which she drinks well. How do I get her to eat? Ugh she's gonna be walking and back to herself just to starve to death, this sucks!

You could try live mealworms, crickets or scrambled eggs, that's how I kept several of my sick peachicks from dying when they were sick. If that doesn't work, you could tube feed. If she is still loses weight while being tube fed, then you might want to consider euthanasia. I'm a coward and can't cull, so I tubed all of my Marek's birds until the very end in hopes that they would recover, they never do, but I'll keep trying.

yes, this is the same girl that laid the egg, and no she has not laid anymore. She won't eat scrambled eggs anymore, shes been getting one a day since this started and I think shes done with it. She will eat oatmeal dry, so ive been feeding her that, but I dont really know what that is doing for her. I am starting to wet her ff down to get a liquid, and am feeding that to her via syringe. Its messy but she gets a little. I really don't want to tube feed her, have never done and and don't have the supplies I would need. Nor do I have the money atm to go buy it. So her silly *** better start eating! Maybe I can gather up some change and go get her some meal worms. I'm willing to try just about anything I can lol. thanks for the ideas!

hi
i received my syringe and tube in the post today and it is fantastic. i have been trying to feed reluctant chickens for weeks now and was tired of being covered in mush and fighting to get very little down.

it is so much easier than i expected. my pullet put up less resistance to that than the hand feeding and i know she has had x2 lots of soupy chick crumbs mixed with probiotic and egg.

i am not covered in mush and it took a minute rather than 30 mins.
i got mine cheaply on ebay. less than the cost of mealworms. mealworms might work though....

i have so much to thank byc for. the confidence to try this came from this site. my syringe has plastic tubing that is too wide to fit down the wind pipe. it is not like a tube down our throats which i think is what put me off. it seemed less traumatic than the hand feeding was.

You must post some pictures of it!
