Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

The vet helped her pass on Thursday. She was getting kinda weird. She would sit on her butt with her feet out. Or she would stand. But after 2 weeks of not eating, and giving me that closed eye look , I just didn't want her to suffer further. Thanks for asking.

At the same time, I decided to leave the barn my horse was at for the last 4 years. I had a friend who had a horse who's feet were deteriorating to the point of lameness. The farrier and barn manager and another barn manager/trainer kept blowing her off by saying her horse has lousy feet and it's been wet out. I have watched these feet get worse and worse for months and never said a word because I will be going to horseshoeing school, and she had a farrier (horse shoer). A week or so ago, she asked my advice. I said it looks like the plan you have is not working. We should make a new plan to stop the deterioration. Next thing I know the trainer says to me I should "keep my opinions to myself because you don't know what you're talking about". And "you have no business giving advice to my client." I said I disagree. Blah blah, she's never wrong. She's the expert queen who's court was blowing this lady off, and I took her seriously, and now, I'm the bad guy, meanwhile, they are bending over backwards catering to this woman now because they know they were wrong.
So I hunted for a new place to keep my horse and got lucky. Real lucky. So my horse is moving tomorrow. I told the old place that I am broke and need to take my horse home. I felt like, too, that this "friend" let me take the fall for this situation.

It was just a lot in one day, sweet Blizzard going to heaven and deciding to leave a place that finally showed their "true colors". Sorry for the non-Marek's rant. Well, I think the heat stressed Blizzard to the point that the Marek's got her. She did go from paralysis to standing. And started to drink water. But, I think her digestive system had stopped working.

Seminole...since when is the day to day dealings not part of the Marek's infection? Hmmm? Hon, you know you can rant and rave anytime you want here, you are among friends who more than get it. As for the problems with your horse and your friend's...shudder...I can't even to begin to imagine what that would be like. Can I say to tell them to kiss off and scrape your shoes on the way out, here? LOL!!! You go!

I am so sorry about Blizzard though. It's just not right. You know I'm with you on this and reaching out with my hand. I wish there was more to offer, but we all know, it's just how it is. Seminolewind, you did all you could and it hurts to let her go, but I know the stories she is telling about you, on the other side, are bringing smiles to many faces. Can any of us do any more? Ya done good girl.

I also would like an update on your feet and ankles......kinda let that slip for a while.

So sorry for your loss of Blizzard :(
Also, I just wanted to say that I think it was good you left that barn. You were only trying to help a "friend", and a horse who badlyneeded help. It sucks that you took the fall for everything, but I hope the horse will get the proper treatment now. :) I have owned ( and loved :) ) horses my whole life, and one thing I learned is that, if something isnt working, than you should try a different plan :)

Good for you for being truthful and giving your honest opinion. too often I have kept my mouth shut about something I knew was wrong and regretted it. Glad you found somewhere else to go.

Thankyou for the support. You all are great. It was a cold good bye this morning. My gf came with her trailer at 7am. I am so tired I feel like I'm hung over. Way too early for me.

Sorry for your loss and the barn trouble... Been there, done that. Hope the new place works out better for you.

Hon, somedays are just the pits. Tomorrow is going to be so much better. You stood up for your beliefs and your friend's? You go girl. You did the right thing and I wish more could be like you. What? You can't hear the chanting down there? She done it, she done it, she done it....Woo Hoo! Look at the fine print...it doesn't say that the RIGHT thing is going to be easy. It just says that it will be right. Nobody ever said that courage was without pain and second guessing, just that it was the right thing. I'm proud of you!
